Works as intended. Perfectly
By KG6EAR (Pcmac user)
Mind you that the reviewer who said the program messed up his Finder probably was using “.” characters in his pattern matching which would if not used only at the end of the search and replace terms likely screw many files over hundreds of files by changing what the Finder thinks the file type is. DON’T USE period in your matches unless you are adding to the end of a file name some kind of designator for yourself so you know where the files originated or some other scheme in which case the search term would be “." and the replace term would be “NewFileNameEnding.” Careful to leave the . on the end and NOWHERE else….
Worked like a charm for me both renaming (A* - > B*), eliminating part of (A* -> *), and adding to the end of file names (*. -> *B) for hundreds of files. No messed Finder!
Saved me an enormous amount of time…

Worked flawlessly

I manage inventory in QuickBooks using *.iif import files. I always perform all of my inventory updates in a TEST version of the company file, once I am certain the import generates the desired results I then perform the import in the LIVE version. I like to name all of my import files according to the TEST or the LIVE environment. Once I have a functioning import file I copy it from the TEST environment and rename it using the LIVE environment convention. this little tool vastly simplifys this entire process.

Basic and worked fine for me
By the original ianoid (Pcmac user)
Apple added a rename function that has a lot of shortcomings if you rename a lot of files. For example, if you want to change a large number of files’ filetypes, it will nag you for every file (“Are you sure?”). This program worked very quickly and did not nag me with every rename. It only does one folder at a time, but it was still a huge time savings from the nag screens.

There were problems that required Disc Utility
By The-smb (Pcmac user)
I had a huge renaming task to do—hundreds of files. But, after using it so intensely, my finder developed some problems (like you’d open a folder and it would look empty even though there were files in it).
So I booted with the Apple install disc and used Disc Utility and it fixed it up 100%. I still use this app but would caution the “faint of heart” to be wary if you have a huge renaming job like I did. Be prepared to run the utility to repair any dangling bits.
