Most apps harass you into upgrading to remove ads. This one is a total secret. If there was an obvious way to upgrade, it would be well worth it. Pity:(

App Store lists .99 in app purchase for removing ads but.... there appears to be nothing in the app. Pop-up ads during video without a pay to remove is a deal breaker.

My friends, these have been dark times of late. Our good friend, our companion, VLC for iOS was recently felled in cyber-combat, thus leaving many of us without a trusty digital handheld AV player...
