What is Lemur?

Lemur is a MIDI/OSC controller app for iOS that has been developed for almost 10 years and is known for its multitouch music control. It is used by major artists such as Daft Punk, Björk, and Plastikman. The latest version, Lemur 5.0, introduces the Canvas object and Sequencer family of features for a new and improved Lemur experience. The app also includes an In-App Editor, three new skins, and LiveControl 2 for Ableton Live control.

Software Features and Description

1. The object is adapted from the HTML5 Canvas element, which means you can design widgets featuring complex shapes, animation, shadows, and transparency The Canvas object opens the door to a completely new Lemur experience, where the appearance and behaviour of objects can be designed to precisely match the demands of your project.

2. Simply connect your iPad/iPhone to your laptop over Wi-Fi and make the connection! Lemur also supports CoreMIDI allowing you to use hardware interfaces such as Alesis' iO Dock or the iConnectMIDI or class-compliant USB MIDI interfaces (with a camera connection kit).

3. Version 5.0 introduces the incredible new Canvas object and the Sequencer family of features with rock solid timing.

4. The In-App Editor, available on iPad only, makes multitouch control truly improvisatory by letting you shape your controller the same way you shape sounds.

5. Canvas — Canvas is a brand new object that lets you script custom widgets with full multitouch support.

6. Use the Modulate page to flawlessly map any parameter from any plugin to the MultiBall object and take advantage of Physics, LFOs and gesture recording.

Download and install the Lemur app on your Windows 10,8,7 or Mac in 4 simple steps below:

Download an Android emulator for PC and Mac:

Install the emulator on your PC or Mac:

Open the Emulator app you installed » goto its search bar and search "Lemur"
The search will reveal the Lemur app icon. Open, then click "Install".
Once Lemur is downloaded inside the emulator, locate/click the "All apps" icon to access a page containing all your installed applications including Lemur.

Download the Amazon-Appstore » (U.S only)
- Click on "Get" to begin installation. It also automatically installs Windows Subsystem for Android.
- After installation, Goto Windows Start Menu or Apps list » Open the Amazon Appstore » Login (with Amazon account)

For non-U.S users, Download the OpenPC software »
- Upon installation, open OpenPC app » goto Playstore on PC » click Configure_Download. This will auto-download Google Play Store on your Windows 11.

Amazing tool even if imperfect

Nothing does what this app does really. There are other midi template creators but the scripting depth in this app makes it immensely powerful. Sure, the editor is clunky and the language is (often frustratingly) limited. But it is also the most used app on my iPad and a core part of many of my music performances. Many of the bad reviews are from people who misunderstand the tool and its depth. If you aren't at least somewhat fluent with programming concepts you make hit a brick wall with this app, but that is not the applications fault as much as a representation of what it achieves: stable customizable creative audio control. P.S. If I was going to fix one thing in this app, it would be improving the step sequencer objects. They play poorly with external sequencers, cannot be paused or reset easily and are not solid enough for reliable live use. Maybe I'll dig into the canvas object someday and work around this on my own.

this app + Ableton Live = PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER. This app is incredible. It works flawlessly (if you know what you're doing), it's beautiful to look at and the possibilities are endless. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this app. This version seems to be rock-solid and works immediately as soon as I boot up Ableton, which is all I really ask for (other apps of this nature can be kind of a nightmare to get going, and nothing kills inspiration like troubleshooting.) The only feature request I can think of is it would be nice if every controller showed its assigned MIDI Output Message while you're in Edit Mode. While I'm duplicating buttons and whatnot, sometimes I forget to change the assigned output and I end up with two controls doing the same thing. This is such a minuscule thing to gripe about I feel a bit embarrassed bringing it up. Thank you to the developers for this unbelievable software. It blows my mind that we live in a world where stuff this cool exists.
couldn’t get anything to work, waste of time

I couldn’t get anything to work, a total waste of my creative time. The OSX editor, needed to upload templates onto the iPad doesn’t work with my external monitors plugged in, connections to the ipad from the editor were always “busy”, the documentation is insulting with remarks like “connection are simple and easy” when in fact there is a substantial list of everyday reason that their software connections don’t work, like apparently in one place they tell you to make sure your bluetooth radio is disabled. Honestly, this developer seems like they live in a bubble and are totally clueless to the new user experience. Good luck, wish I could get a refund.

Just tried using this app again for the 4th time over 6 years. This time the editor will not function if your using an external monitor on your Mac. Cause nobody does that right 🤣 The entire system is buggy and doesn’t have a hint of user friendly or support included. Last update was a year ago and no response from devs on buggy non functioning editor. Had they spent a little time refining this app it could have been awesome and very useful. Could even release new versions for more money. Simple fact is the dev had a good idea 8 years ago and it was a flash in the pan that never went anywhere due to laziness and a lack of caring about the customer experience. Steer clear unless you want to waste hours of your time and need a healthy dose of frustration. My hope is one day someone comes out with a decent control surface app🤪 This guy gets kudos for great ideas that went know where due to lack of follow thru or perhaps they are just lazy 😂
