Mandarin Training Center, National Taiwan Normal University and Delta Electronics in Taiwan have developed a simple but powerful iPhone application to help foreign speakers learn simple phrases to introduce themselves in Mandarin Chinese.

2. “Hi, NiHao” for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad application is designed for users to input simple details about themselves like name, date of birth, nationality and occupation.

3. Each phrase is displayed in English, Chinese characters and the phonetic pronunciation (hanyu pinyin) of the Chinese characters.

4. Foreign speakers can click the 'Record' button to say the Chinese phrase.

5. PS: Internet connectivity is required for tone adjustment, but instable network may result adjustment service outage.

6. The algorithm compares the user’s pronunciation to the correct pronunciation and scores your response on a scale of 0 to 100.

7. This functionality is not complicated and can easily be accomplished using the Google Translate API.
