iControlAV2 for Pc

I had the this app app for many years for the Elite SC-55. The app worked for the most part, but lacked some features that the iControlAV2012 app had. So I was always a little disappointed that Pioneer never updated the this app app. I recently updated my iPhone to iOS 8 and then noticed that some features of this app app weren't working (further disappointment). So I looked for another app hoping to come across one that would support my receiver. Found iControlAV5, but it didn't support it. Now today I noticed that iControlAV5 has been updated to include my receiver. It is exactly what I needed. Pioneer it's about time you gave us one app for many models that gets updated instead of many apps that include only a few models. iControlAV5 is exactly what I needed! Hopefully this review will steer you to an app that will work for you also.

This application is nothing short of amazing. If you have a supported receiver, it turns your iPad into an incredible remote control, capable of not just adjusting volume and input sources, but also 7-channel balance, equalization, and even viewing 3D graphs of calculated frequency response over all the channels. Maybe this is overkill for a majority of A/V receiver purchasers, but if you understand the science behind the adjustments, this application truly allows you to get everything out of your receiver. For those who gave this application 1 star because your older-model receiver doesn't support this application, give it a rest. Sell your older receiver on eBay and buy a newer one. Giving this incredible app 1 star is NOT the right forum to complain in. Call Pioneer. Don't try and spoil the ratings of this app. (No, I don't work for Pioneer.)

I Guess I'm the lucky one. While researching solutions for a new outdoor speaker setup I learned that pioneer had this app for their new line of receivers. I purchased the VSX-1021K. After wiring up the speakers and connecting the receiver to my network I downloaded this app. Everything works great! Pros: -Ability to power on the receiver from the App. (this requires a change to the settings in the receiver) -AirPlay support. iTunes steams to the receiver. Pandora even plays through the iPad when AirPlay is enabled from the iPod app. -Ability to play mp3s off my home network computer library. -Ability to tweak settings for the receiver from the app. I.e. Surround sound fields, balance, bass, etc -Internet radio. Cons: -HMG implementation is weak. Can't play playlist files. No buffer for directory listings. The app has to constantly update directory listings as you scroll down. Imagine how painful this can be if your looking for an mp3 that is buried several hundred songs deep in a folder. Overall this is a great app. My hope is that pioneer continues to work on the Home Media Gallery implementation. They should look at what companies like Sonos are doing. If pioneer doesn't improve the HMG I'll probably have to add a Sonos to this setup for better integration into my mp3 library.

Besides being really cool, this app has great functionality on my VSX-1021 Receiver. I don't know why so many people feel the need to give it low stars, it says right at the top, "Compatible Receiver models: VSX-1021" and further warns that it's not for previous models. But I digress: A word of advice, before you sit in front of the TV and rename all the inputs with the supplied remote...STOP! Just get yourself wired up, and connect with this app. You can do all the input renaming from the iPad, which is a HUGE time-saver. Bottom line: if you have this receiver, do not hesitate to download the app. If you do NOT have a supported receiver (currently just the VSX-1021) DON'T download it, and don't complain later!
