  • DataVault Password Manager…..Usability and ‘Cloud’ Syncing - DropBox vs Apple Cloud

    By Oltman-Nebraska (Pcmac user)

I have always been more than happy and satisfied with the performance of DataVault in my many years of using it. When syncing to a ‘Cloud’ service became an option for we users, I elected to utilize Dropbox as I had used it for other things in the past and it has always worked well for me in keeping an iMac, MacBook, iPhone and iPad DataVault all in sync. With the recent changes in the Free Dropbox model and being able to only sync three computers / devices, it left me a little short of need. So, I elected to try the Apple Cloud sync method and to evaluate how well it worked with DataVault. I have tested the Apple Cloud sync now for 4 days, making numerous changes on my iMac, MacBook, iPhone and iPad. My evaluation is that it works seamlessly and accurately between devices. The Apple Cloud method does seem to take a bit longer to get changes made to my other devices, but it works well, sync's a little slower but works. Ascendo is a great software company, giving frequent updates to DataVault, and listening to users needs. Thank you Ascendo!
  • This is what I was looking for

By Tigre sans une minette (Pcmac user)

As a long-time user of complex passwords, I have been looking to update my the app software. I use encryption software from time to time, when required by my company, and I was not looking to get a the app manager that would conflict with the existing functions in the other software systems (which is sometimes hard to predict). This version is a nice upgrade, and provides a secure home for information that I need. I am also very happy with the simplified database format used, as I am very comfortable using database arrangements for information. Since I was actually trying to avoid the subscription model for this type of software, I appreciate the option to purchase this function specifically (and I will look for other ways to support the developers as well, since I think the price is a bargain). The fact that I can use this software across several devices is a new convenience, and I may try it out when I upgrade my tablet or phone software packages (again I have to avoid conflicts with my company software functions).
  • Really great! Would love more icons!. ,

By Barbara Allison 01 (Pcmac user)

I switched to this from Splash ID, which I had had for years - ever since my Palm Pilotl (a gazillion years ago)! I really like it. It’s got lots of great features and the Sync with my iPhone and comptuer works great! I like the easy way you can customize types and templates. I even like how I can set as a preference the entry. I’m inputting my data by hand (I chose to do this rather than to upload my Splash ID data so that my data is clean), and when I input Frequent Flyer miles or Web Logins, I can set the preference, so that I just hit the plus sign to add an entry and I automatically get the template I want. I would just LOVE more icons! The icons don’t match with what I would assume would be the most common icons needed - like a hotel for hotel rewards programs or the icons for companies like AAA, Hertz, American Airlines, Apple, etc. But other than that (and that’s very minor) I like this. I hope it’s around for years, because Splash ID became very unreliable the last few years, but it had been great for years. A the app vault problem is ESSENTIAL!!! I loved Splash ID. I love this much more so far! Especially the sync! (Just add the icons!)
  • It just flat out WORKS!

    By Ptkruger (Pcmac user)

This application, with its Dropbox option for synchronization, works flawlessly across all our hardware and OS platforms - iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone and Surface Pro 4. It is intuitive, simple to use, and really well thought out in how entries can be customized when making new templates and then easily customized on-the-fly if you need to add a new field for one specific entry. Have tried several the app Minders including one that I had committed to for seveal years and hundreds of entries only to find out last year that the developer no longer supported the product AND it was no longer available. My only slight difficulty occurred when trying to use the WiFi sync function which seemed a little bit wonky and I could never get to function properly. I am willing to admit that it was probably “operator error” on my part given how well the rest of the app works. I also had some difficulty getting this to sync properly with my Dropbox Plus account but easy workaround with a new, free DB account devoted to this app exclusively. Well worth the money!
