the app was one of the first synth apps for iOS, and is still one of the best. The programmer has a deep understanding of sound and sound algorithms, and he has continued to refine his apps with more features and more efficiency. For example, there are lots of music apps that can upload recordings TO SoundCloud, but how many are there that can download a recording FROM SoundCloud and either play it in the background or copy it to the clipboard? You can complain about the way patches are organized (by author instead of type), but not about the actual sound. Another feature that serious musicians will appreciate: the app knows that it's not the only music app on your iPod or iPad, so it works smoothly with other instruments and controllers (such as Geo, Cantor, SoundPrism, ThumbJam, Little MIDI Machine, or Genome MIDI Sequencer).
Venerable synth app with vintage sounds

this app is apparently one of the older synthesizer apps on iOS, and was appreciated long before the days when AudioBus came around and iDevices turned into portable, amateur music studios. Fortunately, the developer has kept with the times (this review after an April 2014 update), and we're left with an app that is AudioBus, Inter-App Audio, and Virtual MIDI compatible. The synth presets are more in the vein of the keyboards from the 1980's as opposed to the more modern atmospheric noises or arpeggiated sequencers, but I actually appreciate that. It's cheap, it's compatible, and it's still darn good.
