  • Responsive, sounds great, and FUN!

    By neilkod (Pcmac user)

What strikes me the most about Baby Decks is how responsive it is. From the decks themselves to the fader, to the transform buttons, there is zero latency. The included samples are terrific - they even include a battle record with some well-known scratches. Sound quality is terrific. They also nailed the torque on the decks - anyone using 1200s will feel right at home on these virtual decks. The digital fader works surprisingly well, the transform buttons are even better. The only feedback/criticism I have is that the pitch slider seems to have too broad of a range. I'm sure the developers can either fine-tune it or make it user-adjustable. Otherwise, everything is just perfect. Other virtual decks have lag and latency issues, not this one.

The App is great however there are a few nags! being that the platers are so small you tend to run your fingers over the arms and displace your self. The tracking tends to lag after a few moves. The tracking don't keep up with human speed. there a small bit of latency. Due to the lack of touch sense you cant alter the pitch by holding the tips or gliding your fingers over the "record" Lastly at least for now, the cross fader does not actually fade. from the center position to 95 to 98 % left or right no fade, it just cuts ( mutes ) the respective turntable! Also it would be nice to have a single Table view. This way we can just cue up some tune and groove along with it while gaining extra space. There is an App out there that figured out out to simulate touch sense using the mic ( Headphone or audio cable must be used to that the mic does not pick up the speaker) who knows if Im dreaming. Maybe there could be a IPAD pro with a new Retina display that responds to not only touch but is also sensitive to pressure. This would take Music apps to a whole new level but then again some bloke would slap the ipad to hard and blame apple for the glass breaking lol. The app works fine for my needs just a few things. Im sure there are those out there who are able to master the functionality as is.
  • A great start for iPad djing apps

    By Doc Pop (Pcmac user)

Baby Decks is one of the best turntable apps for the iPad. I've even been using it in my live shows, but I'm hoping the developer will continue to develop this powerful app. The torque and feel of the turntables is perfect and the ability to upload your own tracks is great. It can't pull from your iTunes, but I don't believe Apple will enable that option for anyone, so the developer is doing the next best thing. I wish the turntables were bigger and some of the buttons could be moved out of the way. Hopefully this can get fixed. I LOVE using the developer's free Baby Scratch app, which was designed for the iPhone, on my iPad because the record size makes it so easy to cue the records.
  • Solid App, Needs more features for the price *UPDATE... USB?*

    By Roger Goatsmythe (Pcmac user)

Update: Just read the Apple mailing list thread, and it looks like iPad does support USB audio class compliant interfaces right now, the functionality is exposed in core audio!!!! Howabout that cue channel? Weeeeeeee! It's nice when developers concentrate on nailing their core feature set before adding extra stuff, and that's what you have here. The Flare engine is awesome given it's small performance/memory footprint and low latency, and the output is suitable for FFT based dj systems like Serato Scratch live. That said, this thing costs a pretty penny, and for that I'd like to see some more features: -single table mixerless mode, like Flare, but with pitch control. -better library functionality -less graphics, more touch surface -iPad peripheral for 4 channel output (har har, just kidding... But maybe not!!!) I consider the price to be an investment in the developer, and I will be happy I paid it if he keeps this beauty updating. Great work!!!
