  • Useful Application

    By DRE1048 (Pcmac user)

This is a quick and easy to use step sequencer with on-sceen keyboard. Ultimately, I need it to be able to export MIDI files, that I can further develop with a desktop notation program such as Finale. This program currently exports a .wav file and the notation as a postscript (.ps) file, via email. I have been able to use the postscript file to generate a MIDI file, but only with the help of other software. Specifically, I use Ghostwriter to open the poscript file, then a PDF writer. The resulting PDF file can be read by Smartscore X which can then produce either a MIDI file, or a MusicXML file for further editing. Although this is a multistep process, none of the steps are laborious and because this application produces a clean postscript file, the conversion provides 100% accuracy every time. The playback capability on the iPhone is sufficient for proofing before I start the conversion process. Besides a MIDI export, my wishlist for a future version would also include tied note capability. 5 *'s for providing a unique and workable capability. The cost is reasonable to me for the capability. My thanks to the developer.
  • Nice and necessary!

This app helped me get a song that was brewing in my head out to a format that I can use to jog my memory. I need to find the instructions because I could not figure out how to delete notes that had been played. Not good for experimenting with different melodies. It would be nice if it allowed me to experiment, then enable recording to lay down the track. Also, I know nothing about reading music and if you do know how to read music, then you will be in hog heaven. I'm sure once I find the instructions it will become easier to use. I took one star away because the interface isn't intuitive and because it erased about 6 bars of lyrics that I wrote simply because I touched the wrong part of the screen and it didn't even ask me if it was ok to erase those words ... So it dowse need a little work but definitely a good app. I want to see an app that let's me lay down a drum track, then a guitar track, then bass, keyboards etc and with echo instrument, I have granular control over where each note goes so that everything lines up the way I want it to. Then lay down the vocals and walla! Song in a box for me!
  • needs a little work

It's a great app I would use a lot, however there are a few flaws that need to be fixed befor I would recommend it to anyone. there are buttons for creating chords and triplets, but it is unclear as to how to use these functions; they appear to be brackets that have no effect of the music, and if there was a function for allowing the manipulation of notes such as dotted notes and tied notes that would be great. other than that, great app
  • Not Bad Considering

Would of given a five star rating if notation writing was more traditional and if emails were PDF format from the start. Other then that works great as a sketch pad for simple to moderate ideas. When emailed it's a basic score of basic ideas. For those looking for multi track, multi instrument, convert to midi, play piano keys: This is NOT Sonar, ProTools, or a synth program. If you need a audible reference due to poor music theory and/or over reliance on recent technology, this is NOT recommended (I do have to agree sound quality is rather poor on playback). Overall a rather decent memo pad for music even if forming chords and triplets is a bit unconventional.
