  • Eats html files

    By dkat1043 (Pcmac user)

Maybe I read the description wrong, but when I connected thru FTP to my site and edited an html file, the app emptied the file after I saved the changes! Every time! The description says it edits text files, which is what html files are, and when I highlighted the files the option to Edit or Download showed up, so I figured I was ok. Not the case. The file was still on my server, but had 0kb of content. Good thing I worked on backup files. It did work with files with the txt extension, but few web files are labelled that way. If you are looking for an FTP client to help you maintain Web sites on the road, as I was, this isn't it.
  • Impressive! Built-in web browser puts others to shame

    By Hyper-blue (Pcmac user)

When I first got my iPhone I was shocked that the "Choose File" and "Upload" buttons in Safari are disabled when you use any common web form. It also turns out that every web browser in the App Store lacks this functionality too. Finally, the app solves this problem. The app helps you to get files into your phone from the web, an FTP server, an e-mail, or an iDisk and then turns around and allows you to upload them through a web browser, FTP, etc. So long as you have images or files sitting in your the app "Documents" folder, you can use the app's web browser (Which looks and feels like Safari) to upload them. This a great news for bloggers who use WordPress or Movable Type and anyone else who needs to upload an image or Word doc via a web browser. The app could be improved when you want to copy an image from your iPhone's existing photo album to the the app "Documents" folder. There is no "bulk copy" or "quick copy" function for individual images. Each image has to be copied manually out of the iPhone album and renamed. The app could benefit from allowing the user to upload directly from the iPhone's photo album. Despite this annoyance, I still give the app 5 stars for being the only app to allow web browser uploads. As with any app, this one has evolved and improved with every version and I hope to see more functionality as the app matures.
  • It works better now

    By ekmoose (Pcmac user)

When this program was initially released, it contained a number of serious bugs. I gave it a poor rating, but the developer has released an update that addressed many of those bugs. Currently, I'm really impressed with this application. The crashes have been resolved and it feels polished. It is similar to the popular AirSharing app, but it additionally acts as an FTP client. It also allows you to access your photo library and iPhone camera. There are still two bugs that I've noticed. In the description, it claims to allow playback of video and audio files supported by OSX 2.0, but I still can't get it to recognize .m4v files specifically created by quicktime for the iPhone. It also stalls when you attempt to open a .pages file saved in the "page layout" mode. AirSharing app avoids this problem by using a thumbnail preview instead of opening the actual file. The interface is beautiful and the file management options are extensive, but not entirely intuitive. However, it doesn't take long to figure out how to use it. It also allows you to edit .txt, .html, .css, .php, etc. files. Overall, I'm glad I spent the money. Hopefully the developer can get those two bugs worked out.
  • Excellent most versatile storage app!

    By Dr Barry (Pcmac user)

This app is MUCH better than the avg review rating suggests. It is by far the most versatile of all the storage apps; can work as a Webdav server like air sharing, connects to iDisk like a couple of others (but even better - allows download, upload, editing!), and works as an FTP client to access files directly on a server (can get access to most files on your Mac!) to download, upload, or edit. On top of that it allows you to create text files that can be shared by any mechanism above or emailed (and editable in landscape view). Great file manipulation abilities too - can move and rename files, both locally on iPhone or on FTP server or iDisk. It is an excellent file viewer for all the std types of files. It does have some limitations viewing very, very large files, but this is a common problem for many of these file storage apps. For me, this app is a one stop place for all kinds of file and note information on the iPhone as well as access to your remote files. With a couple of interface additions/improvements, it would be ready to use for everything.
