Pointless and tedious
By WalrusTexas (Pcmac user)
I already had the excellent C-Lux App, which supports photo transfer and fully-functional remote control. Really useful. Got this app because it claims to access RAW photos in the idiosyncratic C-Lux format that is not supported by Apple or Adobe. “In-App Purchases” is a joke, because you can’t get to any features until you have an account and a $50/yr subscription. When I finally set up the 7-day trial and filled in the hard-to-find info to register my camera, it failed to connect twice before I finally went to iPad settings and did it the old way I’d been using before. Remote control in this app is pathetic—change ISO, press the shutter, a couple of other minor things. I suspect that RAW (=DNG) access is also a joke, because it seems only to provide a temporary subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, not to provide any native image processing in the app itself. I already have Lightroom, and know that it works with the JPG part of RAW+JPG, but fails to recognize RAW only. Really disappointing.
By the way, this means that the RAW Format option on this camera is false advertising, because no image processing software available to me can read or edit it.

Leica’s $50 ransomware
By photoreviews (Pcmac user)
Mobile device connectivity is a basic feature for any workflow. It’s also a feature that was included on the specs when I purchased my 2 the app cameras. Now the app has released this “update” that expects us to pay $50 a year to enable basic functionality -that’s called ransomware and it seems pretty pathetic the app would erode customer trust this way. I hope they make this right by removing the paywall on this app, otherwise I hope people thinking of switching to the app read this before buying new gear. You don’t want to buy a camera that can lose features overnight because the manufacturer decided to hijack basic features and hide them behind an arbitrary paywall. No other camera manufacturer charges to download raw files from your camera!

Terrible
By neiljpgandhi (Pcmac user)
First off, no camera maker should be charging $50 a year. Second, this app just does NOT work. Not showing any photos on the app that were taken from the camera. The resolution of the preview on the iPad is terrible with the Remote feature. Has issues pairing the the SL2, have had to delete the camera and re-pair it every time. the app needs to do better, its simple quality assurance and testing the features before releasing them. Very disappointed with this type of an app coming out from the app.

Works great!

I’m going to buck the trend of bashing this app because of the $50 subscription fee and actually rate the app.
I’ve paired app to two different cameras and it works reliably while in the app, and when re-establishing a connection to the camera, The app is very polished and easy to use. The photos appear quickly after being captured, and the app provides control over the basic functions for remote control shooting.
What’s needed is a persistent Bluetooth connection to the camera such that GPS tagging can occur while not using the app. Also, since the app utilizes WiFi for communicating with the camera (which is good for speed), there is no Internet connectivity while using the app.
Overall, this is the most reliable and polished app of its kind that I’ve used (for Sony, Nikon, Fuji, and Hasselblad). Yes, nobody likes subscription fees, but there’s no such thing as a free lunch and I’m happy to finally have a decent mobile app for my camera.
