  • Deleted & re download fixed problems

    By erikk (Pcmac user)

The first downloaded this app it never interacted with my camera, I deleted it and downloaded it again and the interface was different as that it now access is my camera and works relatively well. I like the selection of different voices that said I should touch. I haven’t played with it much yet but it is now in working condition.
  • It is a stunt app

    By mordaxus (Pcmac user)

It isn’t a good theremin. It is a wonderful idea, but doesn’t really work. It barely registered my hands and there isn’t much control. You will play with it for five minutes and then you will be done. But hey, over beers with friends it is a laugh.
  • Something almost, but not entirely unlike a Theremin

    By PriRmentndo (Pcmac user)

Coming from the experience of playing a Moog Etherwave Theremin, this is actually a “similar” experience. It’s also almost, but not quite sensitive enough, to get good repeatability for pitch; not enough dynamic range for volume to reduce gliss between notes. To better emulate the real deal though, changing the hand position suggestion to horizontal with both hands on same side (as would be on a real instrument) is much nicer, with better ergonomics (at least for my worn shoulders and back). Also, (and you might already have experimented with this) implementing some parallax compensation would help playability. There’s only a short distance where you can move more or less vertically while playing. Otherwise, you have to start moving at an angle – farther apart as you move away; closer in when approaching (then, of course, the paths cross and you’re too close to be sensed). Perhaps adding a scaling/sensitivity adjustment could expand the distance v change. I suspect the depth data might not allow much adjustment there. I can almost get a full step of pitch control, but it’s a challenge. On the volume side, it takes quite a change in distance to really notice loudness. Perhaps making it a log function? Typically, volume controls for amplifiers are constructed to change output logarithmically. Our ears track that way, so controlling volume along the same curve makes changes seem linear. For comparison, an Etherwave lets you do half-steps by extending a single finger out and back (while holding your entire hand at same distance). I obviously have a passion for Theremins, so please excuse excess rambling! I’m not expecting anything like that performance here, and that’s just fine!! Not a worry – this is a very cool emulation and a fun technology demo at the same time! Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it in future revs.
