Top Pcmac Reviews

  • Can’t Recommend this App

    By Hornswoggled (Pcmac user)

One of the reviewers called the initial $4.99 charge, and the additional $4.99 annual charge as a “money grab” this is a fair comment, but I also understand the developers need to pay their weather data providers. However, this isn’t the only issue with this app -there are other perhaps more serious flaws. For example, there is no city search capability. The weather data displayed is for a specific GPS location, and only changes when you change your location. This app doesn’t allow you to query weather, in a different city, if you are planning a trip and want to know about inclement weather conditions, and it doesn’t provide Weather Warning information like the NOAA App does. While the app does provide information like dew point, barometric pressure, lunar phases, wind speed, UV index, humidity this information is again specific to your current GPS location. Other weather apps, The Weather Channel and NOAA to name two, include most of this information with their free of charge basic service, including current radar images, and city search capability. All of the GPS specific weather information provided, by this app, is interesting data, but is it worth $4.99 -in my opinion no.
  • Background Refresh Needed

    By RCL2 (Pcmac user)

I want to like this app — and do except for one failing that I think the developers ought to be able to fix. Unlike other apps like Accuweather, I can’t get the app to update on my watch without touching it. I can’t just glance and trust I’m seeing the latest. So I checked the iPhone settings to see if I had Background App Refresh switched on and discovered there’s no setting to do so. Apparently the app can’t update in the background, so naturally the watch display won’t likely be accurate. Fix this — plus add Notifications — and you’ll get 5 stars. I like the rest. Graphics are great on the watch and phone. The annual subscription doesn’t bother me. The Weather Channel is almost $10. All in all good start, but there’s a few critical improvements needed.
  • iStatMenus wonderful weather app, now on you iPhone or iPad

    By 9random9 (Pcmac user)

I have been using iStatMenus since version 1 and have found it indispensable utility. Now you can get that wonderful weather app on you iPhone or iPad. The app shows a lot of info in one single page with very simple and intuitive menu. Best of all no adds nor tracking as most other weather apps. The app is very intuitive and has a lot of data well-organized. Need to purchase pro version for weather maps and a few customization features. I prefer to pay this developer than to use the supposedly free apps that mine your data, location, contacts, and other priceless personal information just to save a few dollars. At least with this app, others are not making money out of my personal information.
  • Very detailed weather app with one problem

    By Sectionsix (Pcmac user)

If you look at some of the reviews there are complaints about paying twice. I agree with this. The initial 4.99 payment should include the first year of service(s) after which you pay the additional 4.99 for maps, etc. I feel this was kind of a money grab. The developer has you pay 4.99 to get the app and then you need to pay an additional 4.99 for other options. Getting the app itself should be free and then 4.99 for optional benefits. 3/5 stars for now since it’s such a robust weather app. Would give it 5/5 if the initial 4.99 payment included the first year of all services.
