1. During 2008 and 2009 conservation works were carried out in the Upper Town, and then in 2017 a comprehensive renovation of this extremely important complex has been initiated bringing it to its final purpose - exhibition settings and a modern heritage presentation.
2. After extensive research and conservation and restoration works carried out in the 70’s and 80’s of the last century, there was a period of several decades of neglect and degradation.
3. The fortress of Pirot, also known as Kale or Momčilo's castle, is a cultural monument of great significance.
4. It is part of the Pirot’s city center and contains cultural layers from prehistoric to modern times.
