Software Features and Description

1. From these principles Outta Bass was born, featuring a fluid, modular interface designed from the ground up for a touchscreen allowing you to drill in deep when needed and be adapted for your own workflows or performances.

2. The challenge was finding how to cater for large control surfaces that work best with fingers on a touchscreen, for a large number of parameters, on something as small as 9.7" in size, without hiding anything, that was also fluid and intuitive to use.

3. Outta Bass has a distinct raw and edgy sound that can be tempered for a pure electronic piece or pushed hard to be right at home in the grungiest rock.

4. Sample sounds of presets are in the App Previews, on the Outta Bass website and you'll also find them in videos on twitter, facebook & you tube.

5. Tweaking parameters is easy as they all support coarse and fine adjustments and can be played and recorded via MIDI just like notes and then further manipulated in your favourite DAW.

6. No matter what style of music you write Outta Bass has something to offer you.

7. Additionally simple sequences can be setup and played across the keyboard, automatically staying in one of the over 300 musical keys.

8. Firstly the interface of an instrument is just as responsible for the sound as the actual sonic components.

9. Secondly with synths, we've long moved past the point of just playing keys on a keyboard.

10. Lets play everything, easily record it in a DAW, edit it, chop it, merge it, loop it.

11. • Cloud based preset library, limited only by user contributions.

  • Great synth but..

    By BK Holiday (Pcmac user)

Needs AU support for NS2 &Cubasis! Other than that, Love it, great sounding synth with cool features. 5stars as soon as you hop on the AUv3 train!!!
  • Finally, a synth designed for iOS!

    By Eriptron (Pcmac user)

Changed my review to one star. App still can’t play in the background. Latch feature is still half assed. I will no longer support this developer. —— Thank you for adding keyboard latching! But, it still needs the ability to toggle on/off individual latched keys. Only allowing the toggling off all latched keys only is rather pointless unless you only play a single note at a time. Hardly realistic don’t you think? Still one star off. —— My go-to-synth for making wild sounds and crazy soundscapes. It makes a good compliment to Arparillo, a FM synth. Using AUM’s keyboard is problematical when using multiple apps and AUM’s keyboard. One star off. Needs note-hold added to the app Basses’s own keyboard. —— Now if I was designing an iOS touchscreen app, this app (OB) would be like something that I’d come up with (instead of all the ‘Desktop’ designed apps that use obnoxious things like the Desktop mouse pointer “x” to close a window on IOS for example). This, I think it is the most ‘sexy’ looking user interface I’ve seen too since the Spacecraft app came out. And being able to open up, up to 7 modules at the same time (or fewer modules, but more expanded modules) on the 12.9” iPad is real cool! I am a low-end type of guy and add nitty-gritty, down and dirty modulation and you have my favorite synth app! You can be as ’nasty’ (audibly! ;-) ) or as clean and prissy as you like. Drag and dropping the modules wherever, and in what sequence that you want, is a real nice touch (other Developers, are you listening?) Don’t get me wrong. They’s a lot of really good synth apps but they are not designed for iOS feature use, being designed following the mouse pointer Desktop design philosophy that’s decades out of date. If they actually think about it, a finger tip is just a tad larger than those little, obnoxious, x’s. Ok, off soapbox. Expanding the Preset module, you can do a side-by-side list comparison between presets on your device against the Cloud list to see what you don’t have and want. Right now, with the short lists, it isn’t too bad but once both lists grow, that is going to become cumbersome. It would be good if the app could add a small indicator next to the preset’s names on the Cloud list that you already have so that you can ‘easily’ know what you already have. I mean this time next month I’ll have a hundred of my own custom presets saved and I assume the Cloud list will get huge. When dragging/dropping a module onto the work area, if it has multiple windows, they will open/expand automatically (This, inexplicably stopped happening. I don’t know which of the two behaviors are correct). If there isn’t enough room, then, automatically OB creates the appropriate number of links across the top on the window to switch which module window is displayed in that single window. Bottom line: this app is insanely fun, very easy to use and it can make some really ‘sick’ sounds, or not❣️ Good Features: Awesome sounds are to be had with OB. A well thought out EQ Module with three ranges of frequencies, one range for each; Low, Mid & High. You can pick the specific frequent for each Low, Mid & High from their respective range of frequencies. The user interface is one of the best, if not THE best, I’ve come across! Module handling mechanics. The Module bar that you drag the desired Module/s from, down to the work area, all of the Modules’ graphics show the respective Module’s setting graphically so you don’t have to actually open a module to see it’s setting. So while you play, you see all of the module’s settings across the top of the screen. Very nice! Feature Suggestions: Add CPU usage indicator. Preset names that are too long to display should scroll or some other mechanism that allows seeing the while name. It would be good if the app could add a small indicator next to the preset’s names on the Cloud so that you easily know what you already have. I mean this time next month I’ll have more than a hundred of my own custom presets saved and I assume the Cloud list will get huge. State saving would be a good addition to avoid losing your work if the app hangs or crashes. In conjunction with AUM, it hung on me once with heavy use, before I could save my work. It would be nice if this app could also be used as an AU. Imagine modulating this app with this app?! 🤪🤯 It would be nice if a setting was added to Options that would, when selected, save the screen setup (the modules open, their location and their setting, etc.) Issues: I have had OB stopped producing audio a handful of times today after it’s been in the background for a while while using it with AUM. It’s not AUM because OB’s VU meter also doesn’t move, indicating silence. Restarting my 1G iPad Pro on 12.1 is the only way I’ve been able to restore OB audio output again. I’m finding their user manual not to be very helpful. User Manual should be built into the app and NOT only by shelling out to the Internet. Being these are ‘mobile’ devices, the Internet may not always be available. Also, make a PDF version for download. Needs a ‘‘practical’ note hold feature, when activated, allows toggling notes individually. this app isn’t honoring the sustain key on my Korg nanoKEY2. Minor Issues: I’ve not found a way to close the pop-up windows in the expanded view of the Preset module other than by reselecting what was already.
