  • Abysmal Performance

    By HyperChu (Pcmac user)

This game runs abysmally on my iPod 5, iPad 3, and iPhone 5C, with an abundance of slowdown, frame-tearing, and audio-popping. I already have this game on my Nintendo Wii, but the image just isn't as sharp as it would be through an HDMI signal. I'm 100% certain that the A8 chip in the Apple TV is more than enough to properly run this at a stable 60fps. Edit: Had to reduce this from 3-star to 2-star. I decommissioned my iPhone 5C and made a 3-generation leap to the iPhone SE, but even jumping from the A6 to the A9, the game still suffers from stuttering, frame-tearing, and audio-popping. It has become abundantly clear to me that the emulation software in Sega Forever is inferior to that of unofficial Genesis emulators for Android/Windows, and will run poorly on the A8 chip in the Apple TV (4th-gen) and even the A11 Bionic chip in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Sega Forever is a 2016 ARM-architecture Genesis emulator being outclassed by the Nintendo Wii’s “Virtual Console”—a 2007 PowerPC-architecture Genesis emulator. Nintendo has proven with the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch that ARM devices can run stable, accurate emulation of older consoles, making Sega Forever even more insulting. I suggest that Sega either patch each and every one of these games to be of the same standard as the 3D Classics line for Nintendo 3DS, or abandon the Sega Forever project altogether.
  • Neat concept stretched a bit too far

    By ThomasTheObvious (Pcmac user)

the app is close kin to Sonic; not surprising as all each was developed from one of several concepts that were considered to launch a mascot platformer. Speed and rolling won out as the central game in Sega’s marketing, but the grapple mechanic would live on in the app, which runs on the same engine as Sonic and likewise pushes the Genesis color pallet hard to deliver gorgeous graphics. Also like Sonic, though, the app demands a lot of a very limited moveset. Grappling is most of what the app does, and as the game goes on, there aren’t too many changes in the experience besides increased challenge. Sadly some of the challenge is also due to old-fashioned, 8-direction controls, so you can’t always hit your target unless the app is in the right spot. At least the addition of save and rewind features make it more manageable. Catchy music, too.
  • Second best platformer on the genesis (other than sonic 2)

    By Orig DblD (Pcmac user)

This game is amazing it has a fantastic soundtrack and great level design and is just an almost perfect experience. The only problems I have is that the D-pad is kinda weird at times and you can’t save you game without wi-fi and a Game Center account. Overall this is a phenomenal title and I do recommend getting the ad free version for $1.99
  • Great

This game works amazingly on my iPhone. I was skeptical at first but it runs completely fine. The controls are a little unresponsive and hard to use in the default settings but you can change that and make it better. The ads are a little intrusive but there had to be some catch
