  • Used to love, now mediocre, use for burners only

    By Curtis_L_D (Pcmac user)

I was an early adopter and absolutely loved this brilliant service. I would gladly have paid the premium (and still might, if they get their stuff together). So this review is not about going paid vs free. I’ve watched many services struggle to make this transition, and it appears Sudo is no different. First, the old app was much easier to use. I don’t understand some of the interface decisions that were made with the newer version. It’s less intuitive and at times downright confusing. Guys, jump in your Delorean and go back in time. Second, I can’t recommend that you use this service for any Sudos that you may need to keep for business or other fairly important purposes over time. Expect that you will lose access at some point when you transition between devices or apps (should they decide to start another app, again). The backup and transition have been absolutely painful, and in their rush to monetize in a new app, they are frustrating longtime users. Instead, use this app as it stands today for compartmenting all the non-essential stuff. Throwaway accounts. That’s what it excels at. If you lose info, no harm, no foul. Five stars for the core idea. Three for execution. One for data migration/backup. Here’s hoping for something better down the road.
  • Problems

    By parade72 (Pcmac user)

Update: app is pretty much unusable because after an unspecified period it is "backgrounded" automatically and all phone calls and texts do not come through, no notification at all. So when I next decide to open the app, I see missed phone calls and voicemails. I have already missed several critical business calls. Customer support said it is a known issue with certain iPhone models. Why wasnt it disclosed before I signed up? I now have potentiality 50 work associates I have given my number to and per sudo I cannot port my number. I have no idea if they will fix the issue, much less when. Plus instead of notifying me when it is fixed they want me to follow their Twitter or other page. I am looking for a replacement service now to cut my losses. Old review, updated: I needed another phone number and tried out a large number of options (talkatone, pinger, hushed, among others), and had the best voice quality and reliability with this app. There are a number of limitations however, the web browser can only be accessed through the app, so it is an extra click, there is no group text (except for this app users), there is no call forwarding or call routing. Customer service responses are fast. With the other services I mentioned I frequently had missed calls or poor voice quality but this has never happened with sudo. Privacy features are a plus. Email works well.
  • Unreliable and a pain to use

By Abishag the Shunammite (Pcmac user)

You have to put in your passcode or Touch ID just to use the app, with no option to skip that step. Plus it takes FOREVER to just get to the Touch ID screen. I don’t have my 3 Sudo numbers memorized so whenever I want to give them one of the numbers reserved for businesses, we have to stand around awkwardly while the app takes its time opening. I have also noticed a lot of SMS messages just happen to come through at the exact moment that I open the app. It’s happened enough for me to not trust that messages are not being delivered like they should. I have just gone back to using the number attached to my SIM if it’s a person or business who’s messages I can’t afford to miss. I regret buying the year of Sudo at the half off intro rate and giving everyone I know my Sudo numbers that will have to be switched when the year runs out. I definitely won’t be renewing.
  • “Can someone trace my MySudo email and find my original IP Address?”

    By Lord Hothex (Pcmac user)

Unlike some commercial privacy minded email messaging systems, if you receive an email message containing HTML elements such as non-visible images used to attempt to track or identify your device’s ip address, Sudo will allow your device’s IP address to be provided to that third party immediately upon the opening of such email. Instead of blocking such images by default or setting our system up so that the tracking requested is initiated by our servers rather than your device, we’ve chosen to do nothing to help you defeat such tracking but encourage you to figure out how to do it yourself , or better yet,!ideally finding another service that is 100 percent committed to providing the best integrated email privacy product for your needs.
