Software Features and Description

1. The Digital Audio Capture (DAC) app is a free app developed by College Board and ETS to use for recording students’ audio responses for the AP Music Theory Exam and AP French, German, Italian, and Spanish Language and Culture Exams.

2. It streamlines post-exam tasks for school staff by directly uploading student audio files after recording.

3. This app has been developed to simplify the recording process for students and proctors, utilizing current technology that is intuitive to most students.

4. School staff will follow the instructions in the 2021-22 AP Exam Instructions book to administer an exam using the DAC app.

Pros:

- The app provides a platform for recording and submitting background vocals for music projects.

- The College Board and ETS have done an excellent job in introducing the app.

Cons:

- The app locks up after finishing a recording, preventing the user from leaving or doing anything else.

- The purpose and functionality of the app is unclear, as it seems to be intended for college admissions testing rather than music production.

I am a high school student. I have been working on my High School solo album for 6 years now. My college board experience has been a 9/10 so far, but I do have some concerns with the app. I was surprised to see that there was a publishing label called the “College Board” that was so open to having me as one of their musicians. I have been recording my background vocals for my album on the app, but for some reason every time I finish a recording the app locks and doesn’t let me leave to go home or anything. A couple weeks afterwards I receive a letter in the mail with a graded response. I assume the “college board” studios is grading the quality of my songs so that when my album drops it’ll be pristine, but I’m only getting numbers and they’re all wrong?? They’re telling me how to jam?? I am confusion. Let me know when the mixes are finished so that I can release them, I’m hoping that I can get my recordings back and send them to production. Definitely cool that college board studios has signed me, but I might move off to another label soon. XD
