What is Rockd? Rockd is an app that allows users to explore and learn about the geologic record, contribute their own observations, and log their journey through the geologic record. It provides instant access to geologic and geographic summaries of the user's current location, interactive global access to more than 200 geologic maps, and elevation data for most points on Earth from digital elevation models (DEMs). Users can add their own field observations even offline, record strike/dip or trend/plunge for geologic features, and track their progress through the geologic record privately or share it with others.

Software Features and Description

Whether you are a professional geoscientist or curious about the rocks around you and the stories they tell, Rockd allows you to explore and learn about the geologic record, contribute your own observations, and log your journey through the geologic record.

2. Rockd is produced by the Macrostrat lab in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Install Rockd app on your Windows in 4 steps below:

Download an Android emulator for PC:
Get either Bluestacks or the Nox App >> . We recommend Bluestacks because you can easily find solutions online if you run into problems while using it. Download Bluestacks PC software Here >> .

Install the emulator:
On your computer, goto the Downloads folder » click to install Bluestacks.exe or Nox.exe » Accept the License Agreements » Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

Using Rockd on PC [Windows 10/ 11]:

Open the Emulator app you installed » goto its search bar and search "Rockd"
The search will reveal the Rockd app icon. Open, then click "Install".
Once Rockd is downloaded inside the emulator, locate/click the "All apps" icon to access a page containing all your installed applications including Rockd.
Now enjoy Rockd on PC.

Drillers helper

I love this app, it enhances some of the knowledge I currently have for our Drilling projects. The only thing is I can no longer look up locations. I type in an address or state or country and nothing happens. I have to go to maps and scroll around to get where I want to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Great tool for general field reference

Used this in the southeast, midwest, and New England so far. Its given a great overview of the geology in each of the locations I’ve used it. I find the adjustable paleo maps a great way to help people I’m hiking with understand the geologic history of the area. Someone has put a lot of work into this gem.
Best thing ever made in the history of technology

This app is ridiculously phenomenal. If I could give six stars I would give seven. Extremely accurate, detailed, and helpful. It even has a built in Brünton compass, which is amazing. Every geologist should have this to corroborate what they are seeing in the field.
Great rock hounding app

This app is great for finding locations for rock hounding and showing places to others so they can also find some pretty minerals! As you check in, you move up a rock on the Mohs hardness scale. It’s really fun and educational!!!!!!!!!! ( ◠‿◠ )
