  • Entertainment Time is too limited

    By Pinwheel21 (Pcmac user)

I had high hopes for this app. It is very straightforward, simple, and easy to install. But after the first day of using it I have discovered that it has a serious flaw. Basically, there are two ways you can control your child’s screen time: you can set a screen time schedule (i.e., the hours during which he/she is allowed to use the device). For example you could say they can use the device between 10 am and 5 pm on weekends. The other component is Entertainment Time. This allows you to specify how many total hours per day your child can use internet-based apps. For example you could set the limit to 2 hours per day (so for example, your child could use the apps for 2 hours anytime between 10 and 5). The problem is that there is a prescribed list of only about 200 apps that are included. So if your child is playing any one of the other thousands of apps out there, it is not included in Entertainment Time and the child could theoretically play those apps continuously from 10-5. Why can’t the developers shut down ALL internet-based apps after Entertainment Time has been maxed out?? Alternatively, if keeping a specific list of apps is needed, can the developers please add them to their list in a timely manner when parents request them? I’m still waiting for the apps I requested to be added to the list.
  • Parent suggestion! 2 things.

By Sunny smiles 11 (Pcmac user)

I just downloaded this app. Easy set up. Loved the features! My suggestion is this though. Make the items (chores) manageable for parents. I would like to enter my own chores and activities to earn screen time. Also I would like to adjust that time. I don’t think 15 minutes of screen time is worth it for just taking out the trash. That means my kids would be only doing that chore. There needs to be an adjuster that can limit how many times easy chores are done maybe too. Or at least the option. Every family is different so having the ability to adjust types of work, work loads and time earned would make this a 5 star app for me. Thanks for all your efforts.
  • The best monitoring app by far!!!!

    By Gladia85 (Pcmac user)

I have two children, an 8 year old boy and a 9-year old girl, and they love to use their electronics. I have tried all methods to reduce their usage time on their electronics, but there are just some days when they easily take advantage of the use of it because I’m not always around to monitor them. Now with this app I can do that! I can schedule the days and time the internet comes on and off, how long they are allowed to use the internet all while the app is blocking sites, protecting them, and monitoring exactly what they do in there. But the best part about this app is that you can reward them with more time. I’m telling you, I have never seen my kids get up and voluntarily wash the dishes, sweep the floor, and feed their hamster without me asking me to do so. Now when I’m at work, I get requests directly from my kids asking for me to approve their time in correspondence to what chore they completed. And trust me, when I get home and check, it is done!! Who knew!!!!! This is such a life saver. It teaches my kids discipline and responsibility and most importantly I don’t have to nag them anymore. I am so happy with this app. It is so worth it!!!!!
  • Needs work

By El Capitan 78 (Pcmac user)

The app has an amazing and easy to use interface. It works well for controlling internet access. But the app does not work for blocking apps which defeats the purpose on managing screen time. Once my kids have used their allotted screen time, they can continue to use apps and games that don’t require internet access. I’m sure Unglue will figure this out eventually. But for now, the app is not ready for prime time. I guess it’s back to Qustodio for me which has a terrible interface. ***Update*** I noticed that unGlue added a feature that blocks apps after screen time is up. Though this is definitely a step in the right direction, unGlue is still missing the point of managing screen time. Right now if my “screen time” is set for 7am-9pm, my child can technically play games for 14 hours straight. unGlue treats “Entertainment time” and “Screen time” as two different things. What needs to happen is that apps stop functioning after the allotted “Entertainment Time” is used up. And then the child can earn more screen time based on chores. Screen time should just manage the time frame from which entertainment should be allowed and not treated as two different features.
