  • Not Great for iTunes Music Video

By God's Music #1 Fan (Pcmac user)

Though there is an option for MPAA Rating, there is not a field for iTunes rating with the number of stars I rate a video or file. Nor the option to mark with the heart icon signifying you love it or it is a favorite. I tried to contact the company on their website, but their contact form woukld not go through :(. Hence, though a bit helpful I still need to enter some batch information using iTunes, which will not stay when the file is copied elsewhere. If they matched all of the fields in iTunes I would have given it more than 3 stars - maybe the next update?
  • Incredible tool

This is a great app for what it is meant to do. It functions beautifully and intuitively. I use it primarily to divide long videos into chapters (a feature that is strangely absent from iMovie). By dividing it into chapters and being able to add a title to each chapter, I can quickly access which portion of the video I want to see when wathcing the videos on quicktime or on my AppleTV. Being able to easily add the metadata has also made it great for sorting and searching.
  • Nice tagging app

By UNSC Orac 117 (Pcmac user)

Previously, I had been using MetaZ, but that didn’t support the “Definition” tag (e.g. “HD 1080”). I then tried MetaMovie which set that tag, but it forced a “Media Type” tag of “Movie” (which can be set to “not replace existing media types by Movie type” in Preferences, but that doesn’t help for newly encoded files without a tag value). To make matters worse, I found that MetaZ would sometimes fail to load/parse some files directly from Compressor (could be a Compressor issue), unless I ran them through another app like “AnyVideo Converter HD” first - but that sometimes corrupted the output file, and seemed like an excessively unnecessary third step anyway. I bought this as I was looking for a tagging app that would do “everything” in one shot - for what I need, this seems to be “it”. It seems to cover all the tags that I care about, along with a few others I “wasn’t previously aware of”, and has a few other features the other apps don’t have - including detailed information about the encoded file. I also noticed that you can set the “preferred” file extension to be “.m4v”; while I haven’t tried both with/without this, I’m *hoping* that without = “.mp4” as an MPEG-4 container format file, while “with” would use “.m4v” and produce a QuickTime Movie container file. The one significant issue I have with this app is that when editing the Short Description field, the cursor jumps to the end after every single key press - whether it’s a character or backspace/delete. This makes it difficult to customize the description fields when they’re intended to be different. As the Full Description field doesn’t have that issue, I’m guessing/hoping that a “quick bug fix” will address it. If I could add/change one thing, it would be the option to build default file names when using “Save to New File…”, for example: “Episode ID” (as I actually tag “Home Movies” with a personal “catalog number”) + “Title” + “Definition” (in iTunes naming convention, e.g. “(HD 1080p)” ) + “preferred” file extension (e.g. “.m4v”). Alternatively, simply adding “ copy” to the current filename would be useful so that it doesn’t default to the existing filename (which defeats the purpose of using “Save to New File…”). Update 1-26-2017: Just used this to tag ~60 files ranging in running time length from a few minutes to almost 2.5 hours. Most don’t appear to have any issues (haven’t fully checked anything as yet), but the longest ones near 2.5 hours ended up corrupt - if I did a “Save”; they were okay if I did a “Save to New File…” instead. Perhaps there’s a limit to what the app can process “in place”.

I have been using this app for several months now and I am totally delighted with it’s capabilities. It makes movies put into my plex server index fast with little or no editing within plex. Thanks for a great app. Would recommend it to anyone with a media server. Take Care.
