Fiddling with comments has ruined this app
By Thickbass (Pcmac user)
Revising my previous review from a 5 to a 2. The changes in the comment system are so bad that sometimes, I can’t even READ the comments. I tried using the links in the app to report problems, and there were none that worked. I tried going to the UK site, since this is the US version of a UK site, and nothing would work there, either. In fact, when I tried to make contact via my browser, the UK site wouldn't load correctly. It has just all gone to crap. Too bad that it is SO hard to interact with, because the articles are still pretty good, even if I do disagree and want to call them out on mistakes, once in a while...
Syfy Wire was my go-to sci-fi news source for quite a while, but this app is cutting into that reading time quite a bit. There are other news sources, but I like coverage that really gets into the details of sci-fi media. this app is great for the longer pieces that delve deeply into the history and development of genre movies, novels, etc. The other is better for quick looks at new and upcoming genre pieces (and videos, lots of videos).
They often overlap, but they rarely look at things exactly the same way. My only other complaint is that this app doesn’t publish more articles on a daily basis. It’s nice to read thoughtful, well-written articles.

pretty good content, terrible ux
By gen of deek (Pcmac user)
random ads take over the entire screen and the only way to exit out of them is to quit the app and restart. the way content is organized seems nonsensical. some articles are updated on an ongoing basis which makes sense in theory but eventually they render themselves jumbled and useless.
i do think the content itself is well-written and they obviously cover quite a lot - but good content can only go so far without an easy, reliable way to consume it. even viewing their site via browser is a nightmare. until they decide to fix these globally-recognized issues, you’re better off sticking with IGN’s app (which isn’t that much better tbh but you can at least view the content with no issues).

Impossible to use
By CharlieBlix (Pcmac user)
I don’t get why websites do not optimize their sites for mobile viewing. I tried going to the site in safari and it was terrible. It lagged and kept reloading constantly making it impossible to view the articles. I really wanted to read the article though so
I decided to download the app figuring that the user experience would be more polished. Nope. It’s broken. You can’t actually click on any articles. Nothing loads.
So if you want to read anything from this site you can’t be on mobile. You’d think they would want traffic to their site. Guess not.

Good content, awful performance
By SCSoftball21 (Pcmac user)
I like the content on this app a lot, but the app is unstable. It frequently closes, freezes or random pages pop up. More often than not, I’ll use there web page instead of the app, which has its on problems when viewing on a phone. They seriously need to look at getting a new developer as these are longstanding issues.
