Software Features and Description

1. The custom build algorithm of Hue Camera continuously analyses all individual pixels and takes hue, saturation, luminance, occurrence and many more factors into consideration to determine which specific colour is the most contributing to the overall ambiance.

2. Because Hue Camera uses the built-in camera, it's not limited to a specific device and can be used for content on televisions, Apple TV, gaming consoles, BluRay/DVD players and even things off-screen like photos and paintings.

3. Although Hue Camera was designed to work within a wide range of situations, you can change the speed of colour transitions and the intensity of the colour to your liking.

4. Hue Camera creates an Ambilight-like effect using your Philips Hue lights and your device's built-in camera.

5. Your house will for example turn green when watching movies in the forest and turn blue for underwater scenes.

  • Waiting for response (UPDATE)

    By JcHawk (Pcmac user)

Latest update seems to have corrected this app. Now it's back to the simple, effective app that does what it promises. Thank you! ----- Purchased the app. Loved it. Worked great. For a while. Now it "won't connect to a bridge". Still waiting for support. I will adjust review accordingly when help arrives.
  • Pretty cool

This app is pretty cool. I think it could be better if the lights weren't always on. For example during a horror movie most scenes should be dark so the lights should be off with flashes of color as the scene ramps up. I was watching a scene where it was flashing back and forth between two people talking in the same room. The lights kept flashing back and forth with different colors. The scene was constant so the light should be constant. I think it would be better suited to recognize motion more than just color. Every scene doesn't need to flash colors, just the important parts. Keep the lights off until there are explosions then flash the lights yellow, white, orange, etc....I think this would bring in the mood more. If the app could use the microphone as well to listen for variations in noise it could then flash with thunder, or beat with a heart, or flash when someone screams. Another suggestion might be to add movie categories so it knows not to keep the lights on during a horror movie, or to brighten up with colors for a kids movie. Overall, still a really cool app and worth the money to have fun with friends and family.
  • Good right now, can be great

    By Zatexel (Pcmac user)

This app seems pretty barebones and in its early stages right now. There are suggestions that other reviewers have pointed out, like using the microphone to help set the scene and using the the app Zones that most users will already have set up. My biggest complaint is the amount of color sampling the app does, which is one color at a time. Other apps like the app Sync for the computer will sample as many colors as you have lights (on each side of your screen). In conjunction with audio cues this can lead to some impressive light shows completing movies and especially music videos, but unfortunately this app doesn’t do that. It will just pick out one color and make every light that color. It also forces light to constantly stay lit, even if the scene it is aimed at is nothing but darkness. This wouldn’t be that big of an issue except for the app for some reason sets the lights to a white color, which depending on how bright you have the app set will light up your entire room. Having the lights turn on in the middle of a movie isn’t exactly something most people would enjoy. If the developers can fix some latency issues and add features that honestly should already have been present, this app would be worth its cost and then some.
  • Great app...I hope it keeps developing!

I’ve been looking for something like this. Yes you have to point a camera at the screen, how else would one expect to control dynamics. Future features and light fixes would be great. 1. Default settings should be no lights, not everyone. My whole house light up when it synced with the bridge..very minor. 2. Could it work with the new the app entertainment zones? So if I set up a entertainment zone with four lights, two on the left and two on the right. The lights would change according using left and right sides, based on the picture. 3. Would be nice to cap the intensity of individual lights. The lights behind the tv are awesome the way you have it. But other lights in the room would be nice to cap at different intensity level, making them a lot more subtle and less bright. Great work!
