Software Features and Description

1. The app captures from the camera with continuous autofocus and exposure enabled and using sophisticated algorithms to figure out the most important color from the image.

2. Hue Camera Ambient Lighting makes an effect similar to Ambilight using your Philips Hue Lights and the device's camera.

3. Aim your camera at your TV or any other source and your lights will change color to match the scene you are viewing.

4. Hue Camera Ambient Light features the ability to zoom up to 8 times so you can sit your device farther away from the source.

5. The app now has the ability to use different colours from each quadrant of the image (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right) or the full image.

6. You can also choose the brightness, speed of the color changes and individual or multiple lights to use the effect.

7. The app now uses the new Hue Entertainment SDK which allows for much faster light synchronization.

8. Be sure to set up an entertainment area in the official Hue app first.

  • Whites are way too bright relative to colors

    By N0iSEA (Pcmac user)

When white lights are triggered, it lights up my whole room but when colors like blue or green are triggered they are barely lit. The app really should be able to account for that and reduce the brightness of white relative to the colors. The app technically works in the most basic sense but it is not currently an enjoyable experience.
  • Crash!!!!

    By Merchon (Pcmac user)

This app won’t run, just crashes on both iPhone and iPad. Tried to contact developer but email was returned because the mailbox was full!
  • Not useable.

    By QuixoticEnzo (Pcmac user)

I bought this because of the functionality of assigning portions of the screen to different lights. However, the app has a non-standard interface. It can't be put into landscape mode to match the dimensions of a TV. Instead it uses a half-baked zoom control. Moreover I found the the app light colors rarely matched up well with what was on the screen. But more significantly, it crashes a lot. Not really useable at this time especially considering there are better options on the App Store.
  • Needs work

    By Baondayko (Pcmac user)

Seems to have the infrastructure but needs a lot of work surrounding how the camera within the app views the screen. You cannot refocus after zooming in to the tv screen and there is no exposure compensation after zooming, creating a situation where the tv screen appears extremely overexposed, limiting the apps ability to respond to on screen colors. Until these issues are addressed, I would hold off on purchasing. I cannot use app in its current form.
