  • Good start, but has a long way to go

    By SixStringFool (Pcmac user)

There's not really a good app out there for identifying guitar chord progressions by ear. This one comes close to being useful, but it needs a lot of work. Pros: --Real guitar sounds, no midi --Simple and easy to use Cons: --Truly random and limited selection of chords to choose from (20 in total). At the very least, the app should let you choose a given major or minor key, and test you on all the harmonized chords in that key (such as I ii iii IV V7 vii vi* in major). It would be even better if you could select just the scale degrees you want to study (such as I IV V) and let the key vary from one question to the next. A beginner might like these random chord options, but it's really limited for anyone seriously trying to work on chord ear training. --the app makes a distinction between F and Fbarre. I have no idea why. This is the only chord where the distinction is made. --it plays just one chord at a time and you can't configure it to play any more consecutively --it plays no reference chord when you start, which is ridiculous. --tons of invasive ads
