  • Good app, responsive owner

    By Turbo666666 (Pcmac user)

I like the idea behind the BHG app. When brainstorming / ideating you need a tool that enables you to encode and persist ideas and connections in a quick and fluid manner. Earlier versions BHG were very slow and CPU intensive. After a couple of negative reviews the owner quickly put out a new version that fixed many of the performance issues. The new version is much more responsive and enables the quick and fluid interation a brainstorming tool requires. Thanks! I would say, the options in the Editor menu should either be a pane in the app or a floating window. Much the same way as image editing tools often are designed to have flowing windows to hold and organize context sensitive actions for manipulating the image. its a bit cumbersome to always have to move the mouse up and click through menus to get the desired option when a floating context window would make this so much easier.
  • Superb! Designed to visualize and execute a large, complex project

I like trying out different tools to help me work. I have one tool that’s great for brainstorming, visualizing and creating. Another for my tasks and todo’s. Another for organizing. Etc. Well I just migrated a ton of stuff from four different apps I’ve been using into the app. And I’ve NEVER had a handle on the big picture of my various projects and their components as clearly as I do right now. This app makes total sense, but no one had done it before. It combines the freeflowing, visual, zoomable layout of mind mapping — which lets me capture and show interconnections, groupings, hierarchies, etc. — with the basic semantics of tasks and execution — stages, importance, dependencies, etc. The author has made a lot of smart design decisions in keeping with the purpose of the app. Everything from how it uses coloring and styles, to how it subtly assists here and there, like nudging things over a bit if they overlap, or re-routing lines of connection for the best clarity. To the app's designers, bravo. And to you, if you’re considering it, highly recommended.
  • A big leap forward in Mind mapping

    By Olafdefleur (Pcmac user)

I've just started to use this app. I appreciate mind mapping tools like Zen, Mindnode, Scapple but with 'Big Hairy' something is evolving in the mind mapping landscape. I can't quite put my finger on it, but what I can say is the balance between 'free-flow' and discipline / creating your own categories / is very supportive of natural mind flow. As a content creator, the most important thing for me is to maintain focus in sprints - and so far, this app is doing a great job of providing protection by its structural setup. This quality slithers a parental quality, of allowing you to play, but gently demands you keep a form of structure, so you won't overwhelm/overthink yourself into chaos.
  • Fantasic app!

Using a connected map of tasks is a pretty neat way to visualize your work. It really clarifies what you should be working on now to achieve your goal. And it's awesome to see the colors change on the map as you mark tasks complete, as it reveals the steady progress towards the goal. I find the app perfect for any size goals - just to think out what needs to be done. And the app been very well designed too - it's a pleasure to use. I've used Curio and OmniGraffle for the same visually-connected tasks towards a goal technique, but the many styling options in these apps can be distracting. the app makes good design choices out-of-the-box.
