  • Great free 1-page OCR conversion tool!

    By kafelatte (Pcmac user)

Very pleased. I compared to another tool OCR I have, and "the app OCR X ce" did WAY better on the screen shot text sample than my other utility. It was as reasonable a result as the pro product I used years ago. They thoughfully include an option to comment on results and include the image you fed it, so you can help them improve the product. I hope someday they add a little AI to guess corrections based on spelling, grammar and context. Perhaps in the paid version? Remember, garbage in, garbage out. The cleaner, higher res scan you provide, the better chance of accurancy. PDFs come in many flavors, so if this product can’t read yours, try scanning a print out, or print-to-the app to change the the app format.
  • Works well for a free app

    By iThigpen (Pcmac user)

On my mid-2011 iMac running Sierra, this FREE OCR software did really well. After transcribing about a hundred pages of a presentation deck, I found the following issues (sorted by rarity - where rare was listed last) 1) Punctuation: periods and commas iinterchanged. 2) The letter i and j interchanged (someone else reported this I believe .. user mpe01) Also ‘h’ for ’n' and ‘o' for ‘c' have been an issue. 3) Formatting like bulleted lists would be intermittently accurate 4) Chopped text: in the 100 pages I lost a string of 3 characters For a free OCR it transcribed these pages really well. I only transcribed use of the helvetica font. A serif font might yield better results. One note for customer: font size of original has a huge impact on the outcome! If you can, increase the font size for better results. One developer note I would like to have seen is that the execute button [Convert] was ‘on’ by default. I would rather just drag-n-drop, have focus in the app, and hit return rather than click the button.
  • Worked very Well

    By SM_AX (Pcmac user)

I had a scanned numbered list. The OCR scanned each number before each listing and turned it into gibberish - BUT, the items after each number were read flawlessly. It added a couple of extra line breaks here and there, but the quality of the translation was perfect. No typos. Great FREE product! They could easily charge $5 to $8 for this software and it would still be worth it. Especially if you have a rare need for a quick OCR scan. This is the product for you!
  • Nearly instant response from Developer

By Fan of RPN (Pcmac user)

I think I had an occasional minor conversion error in the past but since installing the update I have had none. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Yesterday I wrote a review to the update. Today, I received a response from apple: problem corrected with version 3.0.1. Web Lite Solutions Corp. and Apple deserve 6 stars. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Original Review: I've used this program for years to convert small text pictures captured with SnapNDragPro. It worked perfectly. Today I saw that the app OCR Community Edition had been updated and conversion to text was blank. What's new said blank output has been fixed on High Sierra. I didn't have the problem; now I do. I downloaded 3.0 Mac(10.9 ) from developer's web site. All 3 attemps rto convert worked perfectly. The five star rating is for the replaced version, not the most recent version, however, I expect the developer will correct it.
