Could have been good, but...
By layarion (Pcmac user)
At first I liked the app. As someone trying to get into the language I wanted something to help me write out and sound the characters without having to get out the old fashioned pen and paper. Unfortunately this does not allow me to avoid that fate, and it's frustrating because this app is almost perfect. The problem is they expect you to drudge through writing out several characters before even attempting to having you draw one from memory. The problem with this means you won't; unless, you get out a sheet of paper and hand draw the same character several times and basically throw the app away at this point because it no logger s raves a purpose. To summarize, if they would pop quiz you I. Smaller chunks this app would have been useful, but they didn't. Don't waste your time. This will be more useful after you can recognize the letters by site and just need to hear them.

Please release an update.

Most language apps help you learn relatively at your own pace, but this one is different. While it’s true that the voices are annoying, they’ve helped me exponentially more than just hearing the word or letter once before. And the flash cards? You can’t get the same deck twice, but there’s always overlap with respect to each level. Pretty rough to start if you’re learning from scratch, I think. But after a couple of short rounds, I started to remember, and it genuinely became fun to compete with the clock and that slap-happy hand. Word of advice? Learn with the kids’ apps; they might be annoying but you’ll definitely remember.
Also please release an update!!

I absolutely love it!

I recommend this app if you're a total beginner to writing hirigana. It took me a couple tries to get the hang of it and the voices were driving me nuts, but then I got it and actually the words they're saying are totally necessary if you're learning hirigana from scratch. My goal is to have hirigana down in a month before my fall class starts, so the way these lessons are divided up into 5 letter groups is perfect for me to add a new one each day while reviewing the previous ones. It's really good that they don't use romanji so you just have to jump in and think about what you're learning the way a native-speaking kid learns.

Engaging and Helpful

I really enjoy the format of this app. I use other apps as well, because I like to have more than one approach - but I keep coming back to this one for the great combination of writing, listening examples, and thoughtful groupings.
