Excellent App

Good dictionary with excellent coverage. I'm not so impressed with Mobile Systems designs of their dictionary apps because they're so plain in spite of the many capabilities of the idevices on which they were designed to run. For a model dictionary app that both has an impressive GUI and exploits well the features of the device, I reccomend you take a look at "Le Robert" by Diagonal. the app General has excellent coverage on the lexical corpus of Spanish and its definitions precise. There isn't complaint about this. I do complain that the etymology notes are something in which this dictionary is dolefully deficient compared to the DRAE. Notes on the origin of words seem to be attached randomly and sparsely, which is a serious disappointment for the word lover when he sees even simple words like "amar" and "cuerpo" without information on their Latin progenitors. An added inconvenience is that etymology notes, in the few times they do exist, appear at the very bottom of an entry rather than next to the headword, so I have to scroll all the way down if the word happens to have a long definition or definitions. One of the major reasons I buy a monolingual dictionary is for these etymologies and with the app General, this is a serious letdown. Another thing I don't like about this app is it doesn't support multitasking. It's not a big deal but I like to be able to return to my place after having closed the app instead of starting from the default page. Other than that, this dictionary has been quite useful. In the thesaurus, usage notes are highlighted in boxes making them more visually accessible. Hyperlinks connect each word to its definition by touching with the finger and a back and forward button for easy navigation, although many times the hyperlinks are dead. If the word is inflected to reflect the grammatic plural, person, possessive, etc, i.e. not in its standard form, you'll get a word not found message. This is frustrating. It also seems entirely possible to browse the entire dictionary just by scrolling though this method is very tedious. Familiarity with other Mobile System dictionaries will bring no surpise to find that GUI of this one is exactly the same.
