- The app provides colored graphs and proof of ethnicity, which is appreciated.

- The app has potential to be great once the messaging issue is resolved.

Cons:

- Messages from family members are being lost in transit, making it difficult to communicate.

- The DNA section is difficult to manage or view, crashes frequently, and is overwhelming with information.

- The search function is a complete mess, displaying irrelevant or no results even with accurate information. Adding a new person is also unnecessarily complicated.

  • Great Idea, Horrible Execution

    By Butcher1928 (Pcmac user)

So many bugs, I don’t have time to write them down or attempt to explain them, just believe me when I tell you, You Will Be Frustrated To Distraction. The most glaring problem is the Search Function and the results it displays. I can type the exact name, year of birth and city of birth but it will give you 37,000 hints or maybe none. Another stupid thing is Adding a New Person; why you can’t just have a Add New Person button is ridiculous. You have to make a relationship to an existing person first and then edit/delete the relationship and any other relationships the program created from the fake relationship. Pointless. Last one, although there are at least 20 more things that need improved, when you try to create a relationship to an exiting person, you start by typing in a first name and it suggests everyone in you tree that has that first name, then when you type in the Surname, it ignores the first name and suggests everyone in your tree with that SURNAME. Then if you have 10 people with both the first and last name, it doesn’t allow you to examine them further to see which “John Smith” is the correct one. Oh and the Potential Father/Mother thing is a complete joke. It seems like they just suggest someone from a random tree that has a Father/Mother listed even though there is no way to examine if the person that created that tree us an imbecile or a very good genealogist. Silly program but it’s the best of the worst, so I use it.
  • Yes!!! Messaging Looks Fixed!! Electron App Maybe??

    By A-Dubb_DC (Pcmac user)

~I cannot see messages from family members. They are being lost in transit but the alerts randomly show up.~ No wonder I cannot reach my cousin in Jamaica Queens, NY or my beautiful cousins here in the US the cognitive dissonance keeps throwing us off and making us use the app less and less as it pertains to messaging which is one of the killer apps and primary features. Rest of the app is great I love my colored graphs and receiving proof that I’m Nubian/Egyptian 🇪🇬. 5-stars once messaging issue is resolved I love you guys in Utah and I know you’ll address it in the coming months. I went to school at Neumont College of Computer Science we are doing good things now. Austin, TX, USA 🇺🇸 + The Texas Triangle our to California. #yayyay (Elon Musk is a 🦸🏾‍♂️ and I love Disney+. Thank you!! I can see an online status indicator light on now that turns green and it has more of an IM/iMessage style format and flavor. Monique please hit me b@ck out NY. • Horrible SEARCH results

    By Butcher1928 (Pcmac user)

Do they purposely make searching a complete clusterf**k? Countless examples of ridiculous search results including MY marriage information shows up under my brother’s name but not mine, and why when I enter Joe Blow b. in 1886 and do a search, do I get ZERO hits with the slider all the way to the right even though I got his name and birth year from a search result one minute ago as someone else’s husband? Then slide the bar to the left and no results at all until you get to the far left....AND THEN THERE ARE 15 MILLION results! Still using the App in spite of the almost useless search feature because of so much time invested in it and limited other App choices but hopefully they will fix it and then the App would be solid. Also, they need to add a “Add As A New Person” button to the search results and to the Tree interface. As it is now you have to add a new person to a random person in your tree and then delete the relationship; very stupid. And heaven forbid you want to manually attach someone’s relative to them because when you type in the first name, every person in your tree with that first name is suggested but when you move to the surname field, it doesn’t remember the first name and shows you everyone with that surname; very stupid. Many other stupid features but I’ll have to come back later.
  • Dna section not working properly

    By JingleCat (Pcmac user)

Update: working much better! Old: Let me start with the positive: the tree section is lovely, helpful, works well, and I love it. Now, the negative: the DNA section, which updated on the 1 July is not great. It is set up similar to the website, but please consider that apps are used on devices, such as a phone. The DNA section has become a behemoth if information, difficult to manage or view, crashes if you try and look at Cousin matches for a second person... it used to be quite simple and elegant with the 11 generation view, and option but not requirement to open other users’ entire trees. How can I possibly appreciate their full multi- thousand tree of information on my iPhone? I hate to complain, I use the this app app daily. Some people do crosswords or sudoku. I work on the family tree, it’s my favorite puzzle. I just wish I could use the DNA cousins’ section with ease, but it seems to have become way too huge to appreciate as a simple task in bed or during down time, with the phone. It has become a project strictly for sitting at my computer. Is there any chance to make it more convenient for device use? It’s an app, after all. Thanks :)
