Install Real Kana app on your Windows in 4 steps below:
- Download an Android emulator for PC:
Get either Bluestacks or the Nox App >> . We recommend Bluestacks because you can easily find solutions online if you run into problems while using it. Download Bluestacks PC software Here >> .
- Install the emulator:
On your computer, goto the Downloads folder » click to install Bluestacks.exe or Nox.exe » Accept the License Agreements » Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.
- Using Real Kana on PC [Windows 10/ 11]:
- Open the Emulator app you installed » goto its search bar and search "Real Kana"
- The search will reveal the Real Kana app icon. Open, then click "Install".
- Once Real Kana is downloaded inside the emulator, locate/click the "All apps" icon to access a page containing all your installed applications including Real Kana.
- Now enjoy Real Kana on PC.

- To get started, Download the OpenPC software »

- Login to the PlayStore we just installed
- Search for "Real Kana" » then Click "Install".
- Real Kana will now be available on your Windows start-menu.

Great app, but room for improvement

I love this app. It's great for drilling sound-symbol relationships, but there are a few simple improvements I'd like to see .
1. It would be useful to be able to select (or deselect) individual characters rather than just series. Sometimes I want to target a half-dozen symbols (in different series) with which I'm experiencing difficulty, and that's impossible to do. It could be done without complicating the UI (the simplicity of which I love) by something like having a series become grayed out when it's selected, and then touching individual symbols to deselect them, or the other way around.
2. In order to be able to work with new symbols (or series) more intensively while still being exposed to ones I've already learned, I wish that there were a way to designate the frequency with which particular characters appear. Even something as simple as being able to select high, medium, or low frequency would be helpful in terms of user customization. Could be done without complicating the UI by combining the idea about graying out selected series with using a light, medium, and dark shade of gray.

I love this app for learning kana! I'm still having trouble with katakana so I use the app as a refresher. I love that it includes different typefaces so you can get used to reading and recognizing kana even with the nuanced differences of typeface (like handwriting, there's a few typefaces that mimic that). I also really love that it includes audio of the kana; putting a sound to the kana helps them stick in my head more.

Although I admit this app is a bit confusing at first, after you learn to use it you will never need another kana study aid. I am getting back into the swing of things after not studying Japanese for years and I was able to relearn Hiragana in a couple days with this app and I am picking up Katakana very quickly.

Great for reading practice

This app has been an effective tool in helping me increase my hiragana/katakana reading ability.
My vocab is low so I never have the desire to read even though I need to. But this app is colorful and engaging enough that scrolling through a few hundred of these cards feels pretty fun. For studying. Haha.
