  • Wow! Wish I Had Purchased This First

    By Bifocal Man (Pcmac user)

I saw the reviews on sound not working for some downloads. The sound works on every word I've tried so far, and I've sampled a few dozen words. This is the best dictionary/thesaurus I have owned since I took my original printed this app dictionary to college in 1973. I purchased Rogets II first, then an under $20 combo dictionary thesaurus, and a cheaper dictionary. They fell short because only the common words were in these. I needed more depth. I decided to take a chance on this combo before many reviews were in, and I am glad I did. There are words in here that the cheaper dictionaries don't offer--a lot of them. It is very convenient to have the thesaurus in the same app so that you don't have to leave one to go to the other. I write for a living, and I plan to use this great resource extensively. The larger type size helps me and my bifocals. Thanks. If you download this on your iPhone, as I did, be patient because it take about 8 to 10 minutes. I had to keep my iPhone awake by sliding my finger over the screen several times during the download. When the blue bar stops, it will keep installing, so just let it continue. A reviewer on the stand-alone dictionary recommends buying through your desktop/laptop with iTunes because of the size. Live dangerously, use your iPhone, but be patient.
  • The Best So Far...

    By MVF AZ (Pcmac user)

I have used both the "stand-alone" versions of the AHD4 and Roget's, as well as this integrated combo. Regarding content, I prefer the AHD4 over what I consider to be its primary competitor: Oxford. While any developer can "buy" content, it is the user interface delivered and the responsiveness of the developer that matters most. Here Enfour has excelled: the UI truly leverages the mobile platform; this is not an "e-book," and Enfour has consistently strived for "customer satisfaction" in my dealings with them. And, having used both the standalone version as well as the integrated Deluxe AHD4, I can report that I have had no problems with playing sound/pronounciation files, no "crashes" of the phone or any other major defects. Yes, there are changes I'd like to see (e.g., to the History "Edit" function), and a bug in the standalone version's integration (not the Deluxe) has been identified to the developer, but all-in-all, this app delivers. For content, UI, and speed/efficiency, the AHD4 Deluxe is as good as it gets, so far. Review: 06 Mar 2009
  • Best dictionary app available

    By BWinston (Pcmac user)

This is a fabulous app, and the best dictionary available anywhere. It never crashes, is frequently updated when new OS versions are out, and major features are often added. No flaws that I have seen in my 2 year's usage of it, and it is completely dependable. This app is worth the price for such a thorough resource, and I really appreciate it being both descriptive and prescriptive. The usage notes are a great help, and there's nothing more I can say to help you make up your mind except you get what you pay for; and this app is worth it. Only note-and this is a large one at this point, is that there is no native iPad version. When will this change?! We're almost at iPad 2 and still no native iPad version! Once that comes in, there truly will be no better dictionary/thesaurus app. As a college student and avid reader, I give it a 10 out of 10.
  • It's a CANDY STORE for dictionary buff's!!!

    By soscleaner (Pcmac user)

Just got done downloading this app & making some initial checks to see what's "under the hood". We have used the Original app for this dictionary for the past several years, & purchased it to help with homeschool for our son. This "deluxe" version is by far & hand's down superior to the original in every way!! We have 3 second generation iphones that work perfect & this app run's flawless on them. There is so many neat thing's that you can do with this app, and it will probably take a few day's just to "digest" it's full potential. Thank You to Tracey from ENFOUR for everything!!! If you are looking at this app now....don't wait....don't think.....just "buy" it!!! Honestly, you would need a pretty big backpack to carry around all this information "in print". It's amazing that you can put it all in your pocket on your iphone. Trust me, You WON"T BE SORRY.
