  • Doesn't require an internet connection

    By TripHopHiker (Pcmac user)

I bought this app because I didn't believe the post that said it requires an internet connection. After buying it, I tried it out with my iPhone set to airplane mode (no internet connection), and everything seemed to work fine. I am curious what the person who said it required an internet connection was trying to do, or, like far too many other posts, was this person just bashing an app they had never actually used? Also, based on the definitions I have checked, it appears to have the exact same definitions as the paperback edition I had bought in a bookstore, so people can check that out if they're not sure what this dictionary includes. Just be sure to look at a copy that indicates it includes over 70,000 entries, just like this one. Also, one review said they couldn't scroll through the partial search results as they type, but I have been able to do that. Finally, if you go to the web site for this company, it looks like they are going to have an even bigger version of this with nearly 300,000 terms and sound. It looks like it is waiting for approval from Apple now. My assumption is that it will be significantly more expensive than this version, and that both versions will be available.
  • Another sub-par dictionary app.

    By rpurrept (Pcmac user)

I welcome this app because it is more reasonably priced than Ultralingua's. It also has predictive text when searching, something that Ultralingua lacks. However, the background image is distracting as others have noted. It also has an intro screen that appears whenever you start the app which is kind of annoying because it creates a delay before you can actually use the app. And as another reviewer has noted, it does lack some words such as dirty or potentially offensive words which makes me wonder what other words were left out of the dictionary because they were judged to be offensive by the publishers. This ultimately leaves me feeling not too confident in using this app as a reliable reference; however, I have checked the paperbound copy of this same dictionary for these words and they are not in that version either so it appears that they are just being consistent. Anyway, I would suggest passing on this one until something more comprehensive and true to actual usage is released. Hopefully Apple will fill this void with their OS X dictionary app. And in response to one person's question, this app does not need internet access to work.
  • Great Customer Support!!!!

    By soscleaner (Pcmac user)

We have had this app for several years now and have used it almost daily for homeschool & general use. It's the best dictionary app out there in my opinion & well worth the price. What is really outstanding though is the customer support from "ENFOUR" and specifically from "Tracey" when we had some update problems with the app. We have older iphone versions (2nd generation) and don't alway's see the logic in getting the next new version of the same when it comes out. Apple has been "poor" in support of those of us that had made initial commitments to their product's, and when experiencing update problems they tend to hand you off to the "developer" to resolve issues that they would rather not deal with or have time to waste on. This can be a "nightmare" in many cases, but it was my luck to have contacted and been directed to Tracey from ENFOUR. The problem was corrected & the way it was handled by Tracey always made you feel like you were the only person that was most important. Triple A+ SERVICE & SUPPORT!!!
  • Pretty Good

    By Mike2006b (Pcmac user)

The background of this app is annoying but I think reviewers have been blowing this fact out of proportion. Before purchasing this dictionary, I purchased the much more expensive Ultralingua English dictionary. The Ultralingua definitions were very thorough but there was no partial match functionality. That means you need to type in the entire word and hope you get a match before seeing the definition. That was so annoying that I decided to try the this app Dictionary. This dictionary had a partial match feature that made it much faster to navigate. Overall a great product.
