  • Great help, but there are a few problems in Beta

    By Canaan Collins (Pcmac user)

So I love the D&D beyond website for making characters for my campaigns, but since the app is still in it’s sort of early stages, there are some (but not many) problems I’ve had, more or less just tedious little things. One thing, not currently able to edit anything on a completed character, such as their inventory, gold amount, notes, etc. The only way to do it is to click the website link to do it from there. It isn’t much of a problem, just would be easier and smoother if you didn’t have to go to load the website to edit something or add XP. Another thing is there are a few bugs if you try to create a character on the phone sometimes. I can’t recall what I was doing exactly, but while helping a player create a character, the option they chose pretty much froze the whole process, and then closed the app. When they got back on, a little of their work was saved, but the past 5-10 minutes of work wasn’t. Outside of those problems, I think it is a great app and is still very helpful for running campaigns so no one has to carry around the paper version! Can’t wait for the app to progress even further!
  • Love it and if you love DnDB, you should too

    By Erik Soong (Pcmac user)

First, let’s get one thing out of the way: buying physical copies of the books does not entitle you to all the content on DnDBeyond. I am amazed that I am still seeing that nonsense, years after they started licensing the digital content. This is a companion app for DnDBeyond and you only have access to what you have purchased through DnDBeyond. Okay? Get it? Alright, let’s move on. Yeesh. Day 1, the app was stable, though it lacked some features. This was completely fine though, because the app itself linked to your characters on DnDBeyond when you needed to access features that you cannot yet access on the app. The new features are coming, and so far quickly as there have already been significant additions since release just a few days ago like editable hitpoints. No crashes and full features with internet makes this a great start. Being able to fully unplug is on the horizon. It’s also pretty fast. Not as fast as the website at the time of posting, but fast enough to only barely be noticeable. Another win. Overall, I am very satisfied. I do have only one critique and it’s for tablet use. The app treats the tablet like a wide phone, so that does leave a lot of empty space. I hope that future updates moves it to be much like the website. The website on my phone and iPad are very different, but given the device they operate on, it’s hard to say that one is better than the other. That is all. Thanks, DnDB and Fandom Inc!
  • Pretty Good!

    By Ivywhisker (Pcmac user)

From what I can see of the app, it’s pretty good! It did take a little while to download, but that might just be because of my device. However, I don’t see a way to roll dice like on the website. This app will be extremely useful, as it allows me to only need one tab open on my computer when I play. It makes it so much easier to access all my character’s stats and info, even if some of the tabs (such as notes) are still under development and can’t be used. Even with two monitors, needing two websites open at the sane time while also having a communication software open on the second monitor can be a little difficult to manage. Thank you for making this app, it’s going to make my life so much easier!! My only suggestion at this point is to add a dice rolling feature like the one on the website.
  • Better than it was

    By Adamsquishy (Pcmac user)

The recent changes have made considerable improvement to the user experience. The best change since launch has been the addition of speed descriptions when they’re selected. Not having to reach for additional resources is my biggest “must” in a character sheet application. I would note that spell and item descriptions only come up when in the equipment or spells menu; you can’t view weapon or spell descriptions from the Actions page. I would like the ability to edit my Notes instead of just view them so I could add to them during the session. Toggled check-boxes for spells and equipment still have lag, and while it’s lessened since launch it’s still noticeable. My favorite thing about the browser was the character sheet portrait mode, I could use my tablet and have so much information on a single page. Unfortunately, until the app has a more comprehensive landscape arrangement I won’t be using it in sessions.
