Not bad, not bad at all
By reallancegunnin (Pcmac user)
I may be one of the biggest fans of the franchise, ive watched the original 13 times and i was very afraid this game was going to let me down. The story has been very faithful to the original and hasnt bothered me like orikos poor story did. This is how you make a madoka side story, lots of oc characters, same universe while holding many parallels to the original series. Its able to draw on the success of the original without bringing it down. That said, the prices for the in game currency are almost predatory. Please be very careful not to spend more money than you have and try to only use a prepaid debit card for payment instead of a credit card to prevent blowing all your money on the game. You could easily sink 2k into this game and not have even remotely close to enough to max out your characters. Take advantage of the free stuff, be patient, look at the daily deals which have much better prices, and enjoy the story and youll be fine. My account is free to play and getting through the story is very easy. A big theme of the franchise is not making bad deals on a whim so beware the steep cost of mtx.

Like Magical Girls, everything is good until it isn't
By Voltundra (Pcmac user)
Gameplay of the app Record is very similar to FGO with more quality of life improvements. There is an Auto feature that is unlocked after 3 starring a map, cutting down on monotonous grind. You can choose which enemy to target. There is a 100 pull guaranteed 4 star on every banner. Magias and Connect skills add a layer of depth to gameplay, increasing the number of combinations and strategies you can use. And last but not least, all the Magias are well animated, even for the two star characters, who are viable even in the later stages of the game.
However, there are many issues that need to be addressed. Perhaps due to the rushed launch, the servers are terrible. You can't play for more than 5 minutes without being transported to the title screen. Not only that, but there are so many events and missions and quests, it is easy for new players to get confused on how to spend their energy wisely. Currently, there are AP potions in the shop for premium currency, but while these are incredibly useful, it is very easy to miss. All in all, great game, terrible launch.

Full sized game in a phone app!!
By JamTheGremlin (Pcmac user)
I am a huge fan of Madoka Magica, so I was super excited to finally play the app Record! I was not expecting so much to be packed into one small game!! Not only does it have a main story, but over a dozen unique side stories for every magical girl!! You can tell how much love was put into the game, from the artwork to the voice acting, everything is amazing! The battle system also is fantastic, so no complaints there! I’m not too far in the game, so my only complaints are the repetitive enemies and how hard it is to get gems. I’ve only seen about three types of enemies so far, but I hope to see more! As for the gems, you only get 3 per battle, and that’s if you clear all the requirements. Right now they are doing log in bonuses, but those won’t last long. Unless you buy gems, you mostly have to clear quests or play the same chapter over again until you fill the requirements. I don’t expect the developers to change anything, just a small warning to first time players.

Magia Record Review
By Shiraragi (Pcmac user)
So far I really like the game, even though I haven’t learned all the mechanics. The live2D art and voice acting are incredible though. I love that characters are animated and for the most part fully voiced. The music is also outstanding. Costume changes for the magical girls and even photo sessions for them were amazing ideas.
I’ve been encountering an easily repeatable bug where when my phone locks out from inactivity, it disables the connection to the server or something and “reloading” doesn’t really work, I have to close the whole app and open it again. That’s about the only complaint I’ve had about the app tho, other than chibi battle sprites not being my preferred art style.
I’m really looking forward to the Monogatari crossover event, and in fact that was what really got my attention about the app Record, but is there any chance we’ll get a second Monogatari event in the future to introduce Yotsugi, Sodachi, Hanekawa, Tsukihi, and Karen?
