  • Fantastic game, just two gripes

    By phat weeb (Pcmac user)

I love the game mechanics, I think they’re brilliant, especially the fight sequences. The UI is easy to understand and navigate, and collecting items and such is a breeze. Which brings me to my first bit of criticism; the vaults. I’ve had to pass up rare items just because my vault was full, so I constantly have to use coins to make more powerful potions. I just wish we could get at least 25 slots extra in a future update, even that would be a huge life saver. My second bit of criticism, which, I’m 100% positive has everyone irked, is the spell energy. The nearest inn to me is a half a mile away, and as a teenager who spends most days sleeping in, I don’t have the stamina to walk there. I kid you not when I say that I almost fainted on the walk back home because I was so desperate for spell energy. I shouldn’t have to pass out on the sidewalk for such a minuscule amount of spell energy. Some people are even more unlucky, with the nearest inn being 2+ miles away. I saw a suggestion in a review saying that there should be a potion for increasing spell energy, which a great idea! If we can have potions that increase spell power, why not spell energy? But I’m far too obsessed with this app to quit playing, and I’m positive Niantic understands that many players feel the same way and that’s why they won’t change. But I would be SO much more active in this if ONLY spell energy was easier to obtain and ingredients easier(?) to store.
  • Good but…

It’s a great game though uses the developers strengths and ideas that they learn from Pokémon go to help them make an enjoyable experience. However, in my main argument is with the wizarding energy. For those who don’t know this is the energy that is required to cast spells, think of it like polka balls in Pokémon go you need to visit inns to recharge your energy by eating meals. You recharge is based on what meal you eat and can be anywhere from 2 to 10 points of energy, And can re-charge again every five minutes. You use up one energy every time you cast a spell whether it succeeds or not in capturing the confoundable. Your energy has a maximum amount of 75 so you can gain over this amount the part that I I’m slightly annoyed at is that energy does not re-charge normally even at a rate of say one per hour. Neither does it re-charge upon leveling up where as in Pokémon go you could be given at least maybe 10 to 20 balls when you level this sometimes forces you to either re-charge with the limited gold that you’re given or to camp outside in this until you’ve reached a good amount of energy. It’s more of a small annoyance than a dealbreaker but with the amount of times you have to sometimes cast at one target you can end up running very low on energy very quickly
  • Very fun, but could use some tweaks

I really enjoy playing this game...it’s fun, I enjoy the story line, picking a profession, and all that stuff. However, there are a few things that I think would make the game significantly better. 1) It’s been said by many already—spell energy. Can their be other ways to obtain this? Specifically for people in rural areas where inns and greenhouse and few and far between. Can we earn like 1 spell energy every 30 minutes or something? It would be awesome to be able to wake up with a full energy bank each day, and would also make me want to play the game more frequently because I know that I could. 2) Can Masterful casts actually mean something? It’s pretty stupid that a low level threat can resist a masterful cast. What’s the point in trying to get a masterful cast if all you get is XP? There is literally no other perk, as it doesn’t at all seem to affect your likelihood of capturing a foundable. I have defeated a high level threat on a “good” cast, but had a low level threat depart after a masterful cast? Seems stupid and pointless to have casting ability only count toward XP. 3) Storage. I know this has been said by others as well, but it’s annoying to constantly have to delete ingredients/potions...particularly if you’re trying to stock up for a Wizard battle. I realize this is to make people spend actual money buying coin to increase their storage, but it really makes me want to play the game less...not more.
  • Really 3.5, but there’s no half option

    By Vixen497 (Pcmac user)

I agree that it’s a lot of fun for this app fans, and there are a lot of fun features. But in the American version, it’s hard to find inns unless they’re literally right there (within a mile) because you can’t zoom out on the map in game to find an inn nearby (I.e. within 5 mi) (and the online maps don’t work well either). I also don’t like that the game isn’t as intuitive as Pokémon Go—there’s a learning curve, and right now I’m not sure what I’m doing or how to work things. It would be nice if here was somewhere to go to review the storyline as well, because there’s a lot of moving pieces and it’s a little hard to follow. Also, the graphics are shoddy in some places (especially the people—Ginny was very slender in the movies, yet she looks overweight in the graphics, Luna is only recognizable because she’s he only one that wears that hat, Neville does not look all there, etc.). and the profile pictures will update on our personal app, but our friends can’t see it (my husband and I play together, and we will have to show each other our phones to show each other our profile pics). I realize it’s like this in Pokémon Go too, but I also don’t like that you would regularly have to travel to different countries to get everything (e.g. that awesome opal eye dragon in about a week). So you would have to be incredibly rich to get everything. BUT there’s a lot to do and explore, and I am mostly having fun with it.
