Top Pcmac Reviews

  • #3 lives up to its predecessors

    By aumtn (Pcmac user)

My guess is that you wouldn’t be reading this if you already weren’t a user of previous versions of the app. But if you aren’t familiar with it just get it immediately. Just get it. Those who are familiar with its predecessors will be reading reviews here to find out if it is worth $10 to move from 2 to version 3. First of all, it would be worht it even if there were no changes. How often do you use the app? If you think of speding 10 cents a day it pays for itself in a few months. But it has a great new layout for the Mac. Previous versions tended to use space the way that you would on an app for a phone. this app gives improves its use of space for the desktop/laptop so that more information and possibilies are at your finger tips without confusion or clutter. After only a few minuties I saw my various feeds in a new light. Obviously, I haven’t tested much. But there is a clear benefit immediately. Authorizing any new Twitter client is a pain. the app handles that well, but do be prepared to deal with that when you set up a new client.
  • As “Upgrades” Go It’s OK

    By crichton007 (Pcmac user)

Over the years I’ve always felt like Tapbots have been a premiere developer. I bought the app for Mac back when it was insanely expensive and hevn’t looked back. With this “upgrade” I’m not so sure. It’s not the app is bad. What it has ended up doing is simplifying their app and dropping a lot of the functionality and control that I loved about the app for Mac 2 that I love. The navigation bar on the side is faily large and I can not find a way to make it any smaller than it is by default (I prefered the side bar in the previous version with icons only but now I get icons and text and it takes up a lot of space). Gone is the ability to show multiple lists next to each other unless I open a new window which includes the very large side navigation bar. On the plus side I can now use the arrow keys to move between images when a post contains more than one image but I’d gladly give that up for multiple columns and the ability to make the side navigation bar smaller. On the whole I think I’d recommend Twitteriffic over this but definitely the app for Mac 2 over version 3.
  • Happily upgraded. But I do have some issues.

    By DavidNY (Pcmac user)

I’m happy to support development of this app, and glad to see Tapbots trying new things. So my complaints are more like consructive feedback. There’s a lot I do like in the new version, and the developer has always demonstrated a high taste level in features and design, so I’m not worried long term (except as may be effected by Twitter’s API changes). However… * I preferred the more compact feed that didn’t have reaction buttons visible for every tweet. It’s not like every tweet requires a reaction. Most don’t. So why show those for every tweet? * I can’t think of a good reason why Mentions and Activity should be together. App navigation was much better when they were separate. * Scenario: Alice writes a tweet with an image. Bob retweets Alice and adds a comment. I follow Bob so I see his retweet, which also lets me see Alice's tweet, image and all, in my timeline (which is good). But I’d like to be able to click the image to enlarge it to see it better. But instead, clicking it first brings me to the detail page of Alice's tweet, and only then can I enlarge it. It’s too many clicks for what feels like a natural behavior to me: click this image in my tmieline to see it bigger. So far, those are all my usability issues. The app overall feels a bit slower than the app 2, but I assume future versions will refine that and/or I’ll stop noticing.
  • Just get it! Even if you have the older version!

    By Riptide360 (Pcmac user)

I was on the fence about a $10 upgrade, but I’m so GLAD that I did. the app for Mac rocks! I use both the Mac and the iOS versions daily, but since they were developed by different dev teams it always felt disjointed. I’m happy to say that this NEW version is AMAZING! Absolutely Love: - Ability to have multiple columns set to whatever I want - Sidebar expands and allows quicker navigation to sub items. Soo much easier to navigate. I can never go back to Twitter on the Web! - Media Viewer makes watching videos and GIFs so much better. - Profile Notes - sometimes I wonder why I follow someone, now I can add a personal note that shows up in their profile to remind me. - the app as a PREVIEW app for copy/pasted tweets - FINALLY! No reason to use the Twitter web client again! - Ability to set a HIDE/SHOW toggle that works better than Apple’s HIDE command by allowing quick return back into the app. - iCloud syncing between Mac and iOS remains ROCK SOLID - THANK YOU for making my life easy the app! Feature Requests: - Ability to tweak the location of icons in the left side bar (I want to match my iOS layout) - Ability to have the reply, retweet, like, etc buttons on TOP of the tweets instead of underneath to match the iOS layout - New Tweets in Dark Mode have no border so they blend into the timeline. Maybe a grey border like in light mode.
