Top Pcmac Reviews

  • Accuracy is the problem

    By rhustonpdx (Pcmac user)

I had high hopes for this app - but it hasn’t lived up to expectations. The interface is fine, and the choice of using a photo, a weblink or entering manually is great. That said, accuracy is poor. Some ingredients simply aren’t right - so you’ll end up with an order-of-magnitude error (for example, a recipe with one errant ingredient that shows 2000+ calories vs the actual count, which is in the 450 calorie range.) This has happened multiple times. To their credit, when I’ve contacted the app, the problem does get resolved, but it happens far too often. In addition, when I’ve double-checked the total for a recipe using the app by hand-calculating each item, I’ve found a high rate of inaccuracy there as well. It’s not as obvious, since the difference is smaller, but it does mean that I don’t really trust the information I’m getting through the app, so I’ve stopped using it. I wonder if those things are happening because the app allows users to input individual ingredients? It’s disappointing, because for those of us that need to manage our calorie budgets, and don’t use processed or ready-to-eat foods, this app is exactly what we’re looking for. I hope the developers can improve accuracy, and if they do, I’ll happily return to this app and update my review.
  • Exceeded Expectations

    By RAaBurch (Pcmac user)

Ok...When I got the app I honestly didn’t have high expectations. Though, I have only done a few recipes so far, it has completely exceeded the ones I did have. With the exception of it misreading a fraction in one of the recipes one time, it has transferred them over perfectly. I compared the nutritional info with a few other online recipe analyzers and they matched up. In my opinion it’s a good app that does exactly what it says it will do.
  • Great app!

    By Leitourgia (Pcmac user)

I’ll admit that the first time I tried using it to take photo of a recipe, the app crashed in the middle of the process. But I decided to give it a second chance and imported tonight’s recipe from the website where I found it. Voila! A little editing and I’ve got the complete nutritional values. That was enough to convince me to pay for the ad free version. Thanks!
  • Useful app bit editing is not all intuitive

    By Ettz (Pcmac user)

Taking a picture of a recipe is good. Quick calculation of nutritional info Is useful and easy to interpret. My problem is that all ingredients that are expressed as fractions are translated by the app as whole numbers 1/3 c. Sour cream. Is in app version as 1 c sour cream. ( quite a calorie hit) and editing allows only whole numbers.
