Love that I can finally set folder colors to what they should be -- same color as the label! This is way too complicated by default (when you "adjust colors" on the folder icon in Preview, it takes much fiddling to find colors, vs of having a color picker) AND High Sierra doesn't seem to work as other versions. This little app solves the whole problem. My only complaint is that the folder colors are too muted. Red is almost orange, Yellow is almost umber, Green is muddy, and Blue is too light. I would really like to pick my own folder color with a picker, not rely on the app to decide what version of red is red, etc. One more plus: contrary to what some have said, there IS a way to do multiple folders at once! Just select them all, ctrl+click, choose the label you want, and then while they are all selected, drag them all to the icon. Wait a few seconds, and they will all change color. Yay!
  • Works well, needs a few things

Color is really helpful for quickly flying through folders so it’s nice to have color in the Finder list view at the beginnig of the folder name—as opposed to the far right edge of the field. I do wish the colors could be tweaked a bit though. Multiple color tags are resolved by showing the most recently added tag--or the tags can be reordered in the Get Info window. There is no apparent way to stop this app ! from tracking a folder. One may remove all the tags so there is no added color, but the item is still tracked. I tried dragging a tracked item on to the menu bar icon to “untrack” it and got a dialog stating that the item is already tracked. Being given the option to stop tracking an item and/or edit the list of tracked items would be nice. I don’t know if performance is affected by a large number of tracked items so this may be a non-issue. Another feature I’d like to see is the ability to drag multiple items to the menu bar icon at once. For now they have to each be dragged individually. If global color tweaks become available I’ll put up with dragging items individually. If you’re not too fussy about the color and don’t have a million things to give color to this app may already fit the bill. this app ! is so much more flexible than using static colored icons if your workflows involve changing tags to visiually indicate an item status.

Very simple and useful. This guys did what Apple should have done a long time ago. Congratulations!
  • Cumbersome: needs tighter Finder integration

this app partially restores very useful Finder label capabilities that Apple removed many years ago, but the implementation is awkward. Instead of needing to manually drag each item to the app’s Menu Bar icon, there should at least be the option of automatically coloring icons according to the first (or a preferred) Finder tag. We’re working on computers whose job is to automate tasks. this app is a good start toward a manual workaround for Finder shortcomings, and hopefully the author will enable automation soon. And yes, I realize that Apple’s locked down a lot of Finder functionality, but a creative developer should be able to work something out.
