1. When my son and I were driving back to Houston, Texas from Fort Collins, Colorado we were wondering at what point we started getting back towards sea level.
2. That gave me the idea to build a simple little app that just gives you a rough approximation of how far above sea level you are.
3. I’m not completely confident I’m doing all that can be done to make the altitude 100% accurate.
4. Please…do not use this if you are in a plane or need altitude to make a life or death decision.
5. This is a simple utility that uses the iPhone’s GPS to tell you how high above sea level you are.
6. It will also show you the horizontal accuracy to give you a better feel for the accuracy of the altitude.
7. I'm also not sure this is the most accurate way to determine altitude.
8. It's meant to be a very rough estimate.
9. I also try to guess what city you are in.
