  • An amazing 3D design and modeling app!

    By LFdesign (Pcmac user)

My kids and I decided to get the app for Mac because we love the the app iPad app (which they also use in school) and wanted to see what it would be like to design in the app on our home desktop. We use the app to create 3D models for a variety of different projects from 3D printing to AR to character design. Overall, the app is incredibly powerful on Mac and it's just as simple and robust as it is on the iPad. the app on Mac has many awesome features. We love the variety of 2D to 3D drawing tools, including revolve and symmetry, which other simple 3D apps don't seem to have. We also love the simplicity of the CAD tools, like intersect, which we use to make organic looking objects. The texturing tools on Mac are also easy to use like on iPad - we can add an image or video to any model or part of a model and use the UV sliders to map textures on flat or curved shapes. We can also airdrop our designs from the app on Mac to the the app iPad app for placing and viewing in Augmented Reality, which has been a fun way to quickly visualize our ideas. There are short videos on each of the tools linked inside the app and their handbook is helpful and easy to follow. Like any 3D app there is a learning curve, but the app has been the easiest 3D app for us to master by far and we have tried a few. Thanks for a great app the app and we look forward to more amazing updates.
  • Junk

    By PaulLinsay (Pcmac user)

this is the worst app I've seen in years on a Mac. Just for starters, the name of the active file should be the window title at the top. Nope, it's always the app. I tried a simple project with a cylinder. After fooling around I finally got the dimensions to show. But whenever I moved it the values on the screen kept changing in some weird way. Your supposed to select the object and then click the arrows that show up on the cylinder. Never heard of click and drag? Yuck, it's unusable.
  • Morphi Mac - A "Solid" Desktop Design App!

    By Trek Lurker (Pcmac user)

(This review also applies to the iOS iPad version.) Just want to give a slightly different perspective for those evaluating the app for possible inclusion in their current professional/passionate maker workflow- you will not be disappointed! In my product development work, I have traditionally relied on industrial-strength apps such as Autodesk’s Fusion 360, AutoCAD and (in the distant past) MicroStation. For quick & dirty simple designs, I’ve even used the more intuitive (and primarily cloud-based) services like TinkerCAD. In my quest for a stand-alone (non-net) iOS app, I’ve downloaded and explored all of the admittedly limited number of apps in the store that promise a complete design environment. All suffer from key limitations that are deal breakers for me: the inability to (easily) import/export stl/obj files, a limited palette of primitives, non-resizable work planes, poorly designed UI, and the list goes on... And then there’s the app. The developers at the Inventery have worked hard to provide a great design experience that perfectly reflects Apple’s philosophy for engineering outstanding apps- providing the user intuitive tools, sparse and well-executed UI elements and smooth performance with real-time results. My only gripe is that it seems the marketing folks have repeatedly stressed the app’s simplicity and ease of use, especially for first-time modelers. While it’s undoubtedly true, it also does a disservice to the incredibly powerful underlying engine that compares favorably to the performance and functionality of the heavy-hitters in the industrial space. While the app, in its current incarnation, cannot completely replace Fusion 360, Blender, and other fully-parametric 3D design apps, it’s an awesome addition to my workflow, and allows me to generate professional-grade rapid-deployment proof-of-concept models, especially when collaborating with non-designers that are unfamiliar with traditional 3D design tools. I can then import these stl (or obj) files into these other apps to hone my designs and add any remaining features. Speaking of features, I’m also excited for the ongoing feature enhancements and positive response to users that the dev team delivers regularly. (It’s also very cool that a corresponding version of the app for Mac has been released; this really facilitates design workflow and better integrates with those other desktop apps.) In short, if you’re in the market for a tablet-based 3D design app that really delivers on its promises, and works (and plays!) well across today’s popular platforms, the app’s got your back - stop reading, download it and see for yourself. If you’re at all like me, you’ll be glad you did!
  • Why did the update make this app unusable?

    By Solerift (Pcmac user)

The last two updates have suffered a horrible graphic flaw. I dont think its a bug, but it make the software rediculously hard to align anything with any accuracy. Why did you make all the shadows so inredibly dark? This was not always this way. I cannot see anything on the lower parts of any object without juggling orientation all over the place, and even then its usually barely visible.
