1. The data in this field guide has been prepared by staff at the Lizard Island Research Station on the Great Barrier Reef, north of Cairns in Queensland, Australia.

2. The field guide provides extensive information about appearance and behaviour of the species, including details on where they are found around the Island.

3. to send your own records, including photos and sound recordings, back to the Lizard Island Research Station, contributing to knowledge of this precious ecosystem.

4. To use the guide, drill down though the species groups to find a group that you think is likely to contain the species you have observed.

5. The required accuracy of the colour filter can be adjusted to refine or broaden the number of species that match your search.

6. Once you find an image that matches, view the description details for that species to confirm the identification.

7. It covers several thousand of the marine and terrestrial plants and animals that can be found at and around Lizard Island.

8. Then you can tap the magnifying glass button to see all identification images for species in the chosen group.

9. You can refine the filter via the filter tab, selecting only those species that have the chosen colours.

10. For groups with size and wingspan data, such as birds and rays, you can also filter based upon size and wingspan estimates.

11. It will be particularly relevant to people exploring the Great Barrier Reef, anywhere north of Townsville.
