In the story Rise and Shine events are shown in a story mapping format, introducing children to another genre. The teaching notes are detailed giving lots of information about how to introduce new phonemes and graphemes. These engaging stories provide reading practice for children who are mastering split digraphs. This is an important step in developing fluency, as it gives children a reason to reread and record. Fluency is an important literacy skill requiring accuracy and comprehension. Children need to read with expression to show the understanding of the text. Each book provides vocabulary and comprehension questions. All words, except the Heart words, can be decoded or ‘sounded out’. To do this, children point to each letter or grapheme, saying the sounds then blending the sounds together to read the word. There are NO tricks in the Little Learner books. Note: Please make sure to enable the microphone on your device when asked or you will not be able to record. Also check that your device is not set to mute when you wish to hear the recording.
