Cooltura offers you a whole new way to explore cultural sites and discover cultural gems from your smart phone. Through social networks you will be able to share your favourite content and get personalized information to make your cultural visits more enjoyable. With Cooltura you not only get information about the place you are visiting, but you also get information about the most important points of interest that cannot be missed, whether for their historical significance or cultural popularity. You will also be able to consult a large repository of images, documents, pictures, manuscripts and much more to help you get in touch with the cultural context of your experience; whether it be before, during or after your visit. Cooltura can help you in planning a cultural tour of a museum or open space before you arrive at the site, helping you identify what you should visit and see during your time there. During your visit it will show you nearby places that will be of interest to you according to your personal preferences. Forget about hiring a guide! Cooltura includes an audio guide that will provide a spoken commentary describing what you are currently investigating so that you don’t have to look at your device and allows you to instead focus on the cultural experience around you. In open spaces, Cooltura offers thematic itineraries with an estimated duration. You will be aware, in real time, where you are and what is around you, thanks to the mapping and GPS features available within the app. It will track you only when you are actively using it so it doesn’t drain your battery when this feature is not being used. In closed environments such as museums, Cooltura offers virtual cultural routes with narrations that you can read like a magazine. They include an historical timeline with images, relevant historical artefacts, anecdotes and much more. Right now, Cooltura is available in three places: The Alhambra of Granada in Spain, the Barber Institute of Fine Arts in the United Kingdom, and the city of Trondheim in Norway. Cooltura was developed though the European project TAG CLOUD, a project focussing on the research of cloud based solutions to raise the interest of cultural heritage across Europe.
