1. Apart from the first walk, which is supplied for free and is supposed to give an overall but superficial impression of the city, and is very long, the walks can be purchased in-app and can generally be done in about 3 hours each at steady pace, looking at things in reasonable but not excessive detail, unless of course you stop for coffee or ice cream in one of the attractive squares, which are as much part of the charm of Venice as are its monuments and works of art.
2. The Walks in Venice App is designed to give you the ability to visit the city and explore it yourself, at your own pace, with the help of high quality commentary by John Fort and photographic content to show you what the audio is referring to.
3. Even if you do not wish to pay for the more in-depth themed walks you will still be able to visualise the various itineraries on the map, as well as the names and locations of those points contained in the walk.
4. Each walk refers to the district, or “sestriere” indicated in its title and they all include as wide a variety of things from as wide a variety of ages as possible.
5. When you approach one of the points of interest click on the numbered marker on the map - or on the tab in the list containing the name of the place you are in front of - and the audio player will appear.
6. Flick through the slide show as you listen and use the images to help you find the real thing.
7. That, together with the free walk, should serve you well for a shorter, more superficial visit to the city.
8. The photographs and their captions are meant as a visual guide to help you understand what it is you are supposed to be looking at.
9. We hope you enjoy our Walks in Venice, whether you purchase the additional walks or not.
10. If you are not in Venice, you can still enjoy the app by using it as a sort of illustrated audio book.
11. Press play to start, then use the slider to scroll backwards and forwards, much like on YouTube, so you can move ahead or listen to something again as many times as you want.
