Beautiful design. Just the right amount of structure.

Years ago I would have found the 60 min maximum for the timer limiting at times, now I struggle to sit for 5 minutes. I tried 6 meditation apps this week. Only Ensō is still installed. The preparation time, with start, interval, and end bells are the perfect amount of structure for me. The start bell is great for setting intention. The interval bells are surprisingly helpful to stay focused, and assure my mind the timer is working. I’ve had a couple of timer notification failures using my iPhone timer in the past. I hadn’t realized how that was impacting my ability to relax, and focus until I used Ensō. The free version is great! I paid the small price to upgrade for HealthKit integration and presets. I also paid for all bells. That’s at the very bottom of any of the bell lists. It took me a while to find the option. The default bell is pleasant, but I was surprised how the upgraded bells improved my experience. Probably because they reminded of a retreat I’d done at a Buddhist temple years ago. I also love the simple visual design. It would be nice to have progress sync across devices, but that’s not enough of a problem to detract a star. Thank you so much for creating this app!!
Clean and simple

I've been using Ensō for over a year and like its clean, simple design. It doesn't do every single thing that a meditation timer could do, but what it does it does well. I just use the free version and it is fine. Now that it syncs data with the Health app that is even better, since I can track my session history. Having it get interrupted if you get an alert is sometimes annoying and is the only real complaint I have. Otherwise, a solid, elegant meditation timer.

I’ve had this app for a few years and it’s exactly what I need. As more and more meditation apps come out with guided meditations, subscription plans, etc, I was looking for a simple meditation timer to use in silent Vipassana. Ensō gives you the option to play music or sound while you meditate, but it also allows you to simply have a start bell and an end bell with nothing but the breath in between. The interface is simple and beautiful, and I like the cute little cat animation when I complete a session. The recent health app integration really puts it over the top too - now I get “credit” for my time on the cushion LOL!
OK. But some free ones are better

I want to App, Because I thought it had a cool looking interface. Sadly – I need to at least put step one review here that doesn’t give this glowing ideas. If you forget to set your phone on airplane mode – and you receive a text or phone call during your meditation – the timer will pause and not resume until you notice it and change it. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been sitting for an hour meditation – and I thought I was finished – only to look at the timer and see it paused 10 minutes into my Meditation. Also – once you buy this – you still get nickeled and dimes for different add-ons Like the bells. I lost a few bucks on this app, but I did learn a lesson here. I should’ve stuck with the free app all along
