Software Features and Description

1. Children can choose between uppercase and lowercase letters and each letter has interactive dots which show the child how to create the shape of the letter with their finger.

2. When a letter is completed the child will receive a green tick icon with sound indicating that the letter traced is correct.

3. When the letter is traced incorrectly there will be a red cross icon which encourages the child to look at previous examples and trace the letter again.

4. Letter Workbook is an interactive educational app which teaches toddlers and children how to form and write letters.

5. Next, a clear audio instruction asks the child to trace the letter without the guide.

6. Once they have practised the shape of the letter, they are able to follow the dots to create the letter outline.

7. This will help your child to develop their letters quickly, step by step.

8. This is in the same direction and format as they will learn at school, based on the UK national curriculum.

  • A good start...

By Readers 2 Leaders (Pcmac user)

I like the workbook style of this app, and the sound effects. But as a literacy instructor, I feel there are some key things that are missing. 1. the app sounds...I wish that students heard the sound, instead of just the name and then a word with the target the app in the initial position. Students need to hear the app sounds much more often than the the app name. 2. The writing freehand is a great feature that sets this app apart from many others. However, it allows students to begin letters in the wrong position,as long as the finished product "matches" the exemplar well enough. This is not ideal for setting students up for cursive or for reducing confusion/the app reversals.

  • My son preferred this to playing outside with friends…

    By KFC............ (Pcmac user)

My son has had problems writing his letters since pre-K. I have been looking for apps to help him write correctly (top to bottom and left to right). He really likes this app and chose to continue using it rather than go outside and play with a friend who came knocking on the door. I read the other reviews about the speech impediment of the child who speaks the letters. I didn't even realize that there was speaking on the app, and then I realized sound has been turned off every time we've used it. After listening to the voice, I will make sure that the sound is ALWAYS turned off. That way I don't have to worry about my son picking up poor pronunciation habits.
  • Pretty good

    By Perrysmama (Pcmac user)

This app has a lot of potential. However I have found two problems with it. First, the child's voice that says the letters is cute, but pronounces them wrong as if with a speech impediment. This is a problem for children who are trying to learn proper pronunciation. Especially noticeable with pronunciation of the the app "r". Second, a few of the letters are not correct. The lower case "r" does not have enough of a "hook" on it. It looks like a type written "r". When handwritten however, it does not look like a lower case "r". When teaching handwriting the "hook" needs to be more pronounced because we tend to shorten our letters when writing by hand. The end result will be an "r" that looks like a strange lower case "i". Also the lower case "y" is more cursive in style. I may seem too picky, but as a mom who has a son that struggles with speech and handwriting, these two things are important. It is hard to unlearn things that have been learned the wrong way. Otherwise this is a great app that provides immediate reinforcement for correct answers and a gentle lack of reinforcement for letters not written correctly.
