  • Solid App And Hardware

    By Torment0101 (Pcmac user)

This is a solid part of any smart home set up; from simple to complex. Removing “things” can be a bit buggy. If it doesn’t remove after several minutes, it’s not going to do so for quite some time. You have to rename it and save that task for late at night. It generally removes it then - if it doesn’t, it will later on. Integration with Alexa is very smooth. Options for device control are very nice. Integration with GE smart switches is also very smooth with one catch. Discovering multiple switches at one time can take up to around 30+ minutes. However, by powering up and discovering one at a time, one can cut that down to a minute. One amazingly MASSIVE draw back is if you need to migrate to another version, one must remove EVERYTHING. If the hub should fail, you must reset EVERY device to its factory defaults so it can be reincluded one by one, and recreate all of your automations! Samsung, for some insane reason, provides NO image backup and restore. For someone like me with nearly 300 devices, to say nothing about the number of scenes, routines, and automations, that is a VERY SERIOUS deficiency. I almost gave this a 3 because of that, but it has been reliable for a few years now. When it goes though, I’ll be in for a two or so week ordeal.
  • 4.5 Stars....Almost perfect

By A Good Grandson (Pcmac user)

This is my first attempt at setting up a smart home system. I set it up for my elderly paraplegic grandmother who lives alone. Initial setup was rather intuitive and the basic options met most of our goals. It’s nearly a perfect app for the system. The only hiccups are in the confusion between using the “new” app vs the “classic” app (the classic app seems much better), I do wish that the Ring video app could be integrated since it can be confusing having to switch back and forth from viewing the video then unlocking the door. Setting up automations was a breeze and I like that it monitors the battery level on the sensors although I was a little disappointed that it couldn’t tell me which batteries to buy for those sensors (which happen to be the app branded sensors). Lag isn’t bad, around 3 seconds. The “smart apps” are a bit confusing, such as the smart locks app but decent enough. All in all, I think that the app is pretty good considering I was able to set it up, figure it out then teach both an 84 year old woman and my 65 year old dad how to use it all in just a few hours! 4.5 stars.
  • Make SmartThings “Smart” again!

    By NebraskaJer (Pcmac user)

Thanks for the recent update. I had a problem where my wife’s and I’s phones were not updating with the presence modes. This made it seem like we were always home and would never activate the away locked mode. Well I can say with this latest update it’s working perfectly. :-) thanks for making it work with IOS 11 and taking time to get it working again. Please keep the app smart. :-) working great now and I have no problems. Easy way to check my home and tell what the current status of my house is. Love it. I was halfway across the country and the garage door had a glitch and went back to open status after wife left for work. I texted a friend and he stopped over and sure as heck, the door was open. He shut the garage door and made sure everything was safe. I was notified within 10-15 minutes and could find help within 5 minutes or so. Thanks the app!!! This is what I was looking for. Keep it up.
  • Hub is as smart as its owner. Unless it's Vera

    By hax0rmort (Pcmac user)

If I had know the app allows custom handlers for Zigbee products.... CEO at Vera Ltd has been fooling me and everyone else blaming Vera Plus lack of Zigbee (even COMMON Z-Wave devices) support on the fact Zigbee requires a unique driver for each device and how long it would take, etc. I've gotten my 96 device system stable on the app in three days paired with Stringify. INSTEAD OF: Vera-Plus, connected Wink 2, connected USB Insteon PLM and Hue bridge system. Too much wireless. I was able to get rid of my Plant Link hub, my Hue Bridge, and shut down the Vera Plus. SmarThings pairs PlantLink sensors directly, as well as Hue bulbs! Just got my Bloom directly connected to the app using a Zigbee ZLL remote to reset the Hue bulb and remove it from ZLL to ZHA on the ST hub. If I had known....I never would have messed with Vera for YEARS! Glad I'm here now! Not going anywhere! One thing....I'm HAVING to keep my Wink 2 attached for Bluetooth support via SwitchMate devices. Can we get the BTLE chip up and at em? Please? 🇺🇸 Now my home is connected and operating with Smarthings hub 2, alerting me of my Insteon leak sensors via Stringify,
