  • crashed on open - both free and pro!

    By LadyDrak (Pcmac user)

The free version crashed on opening. Bought the paid version. Samo sami! No happy! I am using a MacBook Pro 2009 13”, Mavericks and 8Gb memory. It was only 99 cents but still would like my $$ back!!!!
  • What am I missing here?

So… Would somebody please explain to me how this might be an improvement over Font Book? Methinks Font Book is a more complete and useful app. Cons: - No search function - Navigation only via tedious (very) scrolling - Not possible to group fonts Pros: - The only thing I can come up with is one can input and preview one's own text. Big deal.
  • Works exactly as advertised.

Works great. Previous version crashed when I opened it; but they've fixed that, and it works just fine now. Shows whatever I type in the box in all of the 300+ fonts that I have installed on my computer.
  • Limited usefulness

    By Lin Ai (Pcmac user)

If you want to scroll through a sample of text in *all* your installed fonts (including the Last Resort, which isn't shown in FontBook) or export the whole thing as a pdf, this will do the trick. But scrolling around hundreds of fonts is really tedious and the pdf export was over 100 pages long. There should be a way to jump to a particular font in the display. There should also be a way to look at (and export) a subset of your installed fonts; what if you're making a comic and just want to compare a few different handwritten style fonts next to each other or if you need to give a client a choice of several fonts? I don't see any way to limit the set of fonts displayed/exported. The workaround seems to be to scroll to the first font you want in the app, copy the text and paste into another app, go to the second font, copy/paste the text again, and so on. This doesn't seem any faster than pasting your text however many times into Pages (or whatever) and formatting each instance as a different font. the app is also rather misleading when it comes to non-roman characters (or even roman characters with less common diacritics). For example, if you type Chinese into the text box, it will show you the Chinese text sample in all the installed fonts, even when most of the fonts do not actually have Chinese characters in them. Presumably the app is showing the same substitutions that your system would make, which is fine if that is what you actually want to see (of course different systems will make different substitutions). In my publishing experience, however, what I normally need to see is which fonts actually have particular characters so that you're not subject to the variability of substitutions; Apple's built-in FontBook does this better and shows generic placeholders for characters not included in a particular font. Try looking at "打字 dǎzì" in Zapfino using the app vs. FontBook to see what I mean. Other issues: I've had trouble pasting into the sample box; nothing happens when I paste, either with keyboard command or menu. The app always reverts to "The quick brown fox …" when launched. It would be nice if it kept your last sample text (FontBook maintains any custom text). Under the application menu there seem to be relics of an earlier name for the app ("MyFonts"). In short, this app does not feel like a productivity tool. It might be entertaining if you're just curious about fonts on your system, but it doesn't get you much more than FontBook, except the giant pdf export.
