  • By far the best game I’ve played so far on iPad

    By Majorfifth (Pcmac user)

This is a challenging puzzle game set in a moonlit, snowy Swedish forest at midnight, where you are undertaking a this app: a step across the bounds of this world and others. If you can survive the journey, you might emerge with foreknowledge of some of the events of the coming the app. Along the way you must contend with otherworldly creatures out of ancient Swedish folklore. Never before have I experienced a game where I felt so present in its world. Wandering through the woods, snow crunching underfoot, only incidental objects such as rock piles or old farm equipment to mark my path, I never knew when I’d encounter the next animal-headed phantasm with blank eyes, or gory patches of blood of long-dead children. If you’ve ever read any Susan Cooper, you’ll understand the feeling the game engenders: of being at the border of the worlds. The game comes with a Companion that explains some of the folklore and symbology, and has other purposes too. Do get the Companion...let’s just say it will come in handy!
  • Magnificently Mysterious...

    By Pandimandi07 (Pcmac user)

This game was truly fantastic! It had a lot more of a horror aspect then I originally thought it would have, which is really great, it plays on the whole “don’t judge a book [game] by its cover.” Art style was beautiful and creepy, the music was perfect for each point of the game, and the overall story was compelling, captivating, and very mysterious. I think the use of the journal in the companion was genius and really hooked me. There are too many great things to even mention about the game in this one review! The only thing I think that could be improved upon is the IOS version of the game could use a map to navigate the landscape, but even then it’s not a necessity because you get used to the terrain eventually and find your way. I loved this game so much; I can only hope the other horror games I intend to delve into can deliver such a grand atmosphere and greatness as this game has!
  • Honestly my favorite game ever

    By papercrispwhiskey (Pcmac user)

I wasn’t lying in the title; this game is my absolute favorite and I will always come back to it. The story telling and the images bring forth a mystery that is accessible to all levels of theorist and game detective and conjures a strange world that I’ve gotten lost in every time I play. There isn’t much replay-ability but even with the same story over and over it’s still so much fun. The fact that it’s accompanied by a “companion” app and several short stories just shows you how much dedication went into this game. I cant really articulate how much I love this game because I honestly just think it’s perfect in its level of creepiness and strange beauty.
  • can’t recommend

    By duavis (Pcmac user)

there’s a difference between being challenging yet engaging and rewarding and being completely obtuse and impenetrable. this app’s puzzles are the latter. there’s also a difference between creating a creepy, haunting atmosphere and having jumpscares every time the player makes any progress. again, this app is the latter. it would be cynical to say the obnoxious difficulty is to stretch the game’s length out to justify asking for 4 dollars, but unfortunately that seems to be pretty accurate. the companion is a nice idea but the lore it provides is pretty categorically not helpful. the art and sound design are nice. if you want good puzzles and/or creepy atmosphere i’d recommend something out of the cube escape series (many of which are FREE) or even this same company’s title DEVICE 6, which is superb. this app, however, is just too unintuitive and poorly executed to recommend.
